In need of a picture of the on/off switch for Dyson DC17.

I removed the switch assembly on my Dyson DC17 Animal and there is a little white plastic ''widget'' that fell on the floor along with the ''buttons'' that you push to turn on/off the power and the floor brush. I can not figure out how to put the little white plastic piece and spring back together.

HELP!!!!!!
Thanks in advance!

This is over a year too late, but perhaps this will help other people in your situation. Here is how the switch assembly should go together:

This was most helpful. Disassembling the switch is just full of surprises with springs and spring loaded parts flying in all directions. No time to take a picture especially with the clarity of the one above. Thanks Greg Schuster

I actually fixed the placement of that little white thing, which was the problem, not the switch asseembly, and followed the photos to put the thing back together. It is working!! I'm so pleased, 72 year old woman with Parkinson's! It only took a week..Thanks,,,,Adeline Evans

on the top picture is the spring missing that holds the little white thing back.

I ended up leaving the white thing out, as I couldn't figure out where the 2nd spring went, and it kept falling out. It made no difference, buttons work fine!

My carpet nap is very thick and it is very hard to vacuum with my Dyson dc17 animal. I need to know if there is a way to adjust the height on the vacuum

Hi Deb,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using DC17 on this particular carpet type. DC17 is engineered to adjust automatically to different floor types, and does not need manual height adjustment.

Carpet manufacturers sometimes recommend vacuuming deep or delicate carpet piles with the rotating brush bar turned off. We'd recommend checking with the manufacturer of your carpeting as they'll be best placed to offer advice on the correct way of cleaning it. To turn off the brush bar on DC17, just use the silver brush control switch next to the red on/off switch.

It's also worth checking that the soleplate is fitted correctly. Any dirt or residue on the soleplate can be removed with a damp cloth - make sure it's completely dry before refitting it. You can find out how to remove and replace it here: http://content.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=962&product=DC17-ANIMAL

I hope this helps, but if you would like further advice after you've given this a try, please email your details to [email protected]. One of our experts will be in touch as soon as possible.

Best wishes,

Jack

I opened my dc17 dyson to clean teh motor. trying

I'm not sure about all the switches used in the vacuum, but I recently took some pictures of the power button assembly. The buttons in the picture below are (from left-to-right): Circuit Breaker, Brush Switch, Power Switch

The next picture shows how the plastic buttons that operate the brush and power switches should go together:

And finally, this is how the power button assembly reattaches:

A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards
Darran
