I am sorry to never see how my question was automatically truncated while posting. The current problem I have is when I try to power up using the miniminal configuration 1 dimm, processor and psu the cpu fan does not spin up. the original question states a day old condition when fan would spin up but display would stay in power save throughout.

this was posted a couple of days back. in the meantime, i could bring the board to life and doomed it again. Resurrection part. Observed following: 1. initially the board would not spin with cmos battery in. 2. cannot switch the board off via power switch. power cable removed and inserted. 3. do not know if psu is bad. Even now shorting ps-on and gnd (green and black pins) brings the board to life. along with all peripherals connected - so assume psu is still good. shorting is done from under the main board. 4. found that whenever the board could be powered up then it needed to be switched off for about 10 min before it could be repowered. 5. used recovery jumper and flashed bios using usb, many times without display - perhaps did not really do anything. Subsequently on trying a different dimm in channel A - reflashed successfully and display appeared for the first time. with both dimm could not enter into normal mode earlier but after this could enter normal mode with display. could connect hdd and load in os thereafter. breaking again: 1. was trying to confirm if the other dimm was indeed bad, tried it. 2 got frustrated waiting for 10 min before any power up - thought condesors might be needing discharge. shorted everything by placing mainborad on a metal sheet while psu disconnected from mains. 3. cpu cannot be powered up anymore. the state is worse than original. since the cpu fan does not spin on its own by pressing power button. but if the psu pins are shorted than psu powers brings the board and all connected peripherals to life. 4. do not have any spare parts of this board to experiment with currently. though trying for it, but chances are less. Any help in solving it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Memory for Intel motherboards require the memory to be compatible with, Serial Presence Detect (SPD). Its suggested when upgrading memory for Intel boards or increasing memory to do you're search for the total memory you wish & include the Intel mother board model. Example: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=Memory+for+Intel+DG31PR&btnG=Google+Search
This first link shows what brands works with the DG31PR MB.

You're Intel board is well within the Intel warranty. If you find this information not helpful please call Intel tech support. It is possible you're board needs higher attention. Please check & install the latest bios. Intel's link for bios, manual & drivers link:

SOURCE: Maxing memory speed, GB or MHz more important?

I don't think a difference of 133MHz of memory speed will make a difference in your gaming performance either way. Also, you won't be able to use more than 3.5GB of memory if you don't have a 64-bit operating system. Finally, it'll be a rare person who actually notices a difference in using 8GB vs 4GB of RAM. So, in conclusion, just buy 4GB of 800MHz RAM and spend your money and your time on a good graphics card, if gaming performance is your main concern. SOURCE: I want to buy a new rig , main purpose is to use

The processor is too weak - get at least an i5, best would be a quad core i7; the hard drive will be filled faster than you thing - bigger is always better; get some faster memories - at least 1666 MHz, 4 GB is bare minimum, get a 64bit OS and 8 GB for real performance; the power source is at the limit - for best result get one of 600W; as for the video card the best for photoshop is Nvidia Quadro CX, even ATI Fire will be better than any gaming card.

I want some information about Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT 1GB DDR 2

If you are using Dual Core the mother board you are using may have PCI Express Slot. So that you may install Graphics card. Only for particular lower end mother board doesn't have this feature. Any way tell me your motherboard make and model no. e.g., Intel DG31PR, 945GNT, DG41TY etc.,

Do i have to face any heating problems with the mentioned config?

If you are NOT going to overclock the CPU and memory, it should work easy.

New C2D processors are quite cool.

Also you shoult pay attention to a good Power supply, and maybe enough big case with place for front and rear extra fans,
If you face heating problems later, you may put those two fans.

Regards.
