I want to delete previously entered 'favorites' from my One XL

If there's data (items) on your TomTom that you can remove/delete, like music, photo's, images, (useless/not needed) maps, favorites, etc. it will give you more "disk" space to work with.

You can back up the data (using the TomTom HOME application) before you remove the items from your device.

2. Tap Change preferences to open the Preferences menu.
3. Tap Manage Favorites.
4. Tap the Favorite you want to delete.
5. Tap Delete.

Turn on the GPS. Click (tap) on the main screen. You will be on Main menu 1of 2 now. click on change preferences. You will be on Preferences 1 of 6 now. click on arrow. You will be on Preferences 2 of 6 now. Tap on manage favorites. You will see your list of favorites. Tap on the favorite you want to delete. On the screen that opens tap delete. On the confirmation screen, tap yes. The screen will go back to your favorite screen. You will now see that one favorite you selected is gone. Tap done.

You can actually re-enter the same address as many time as your device can physically hold in its flash memory.
My guess is that you are looking at your old 'saved' favorite: if you want to make absolutely certain about any 'new' favorites, I would suggest that you delete or rename the original one(s) first by using:
'Changes preferences' -> scroll right to 'Manage Favorites' -> scroll up/down to locate the favorite to be maintained and either 'Delete' or 'Rename'.

How can I create a Favorite?
From the Main Menu, tap Add favorite.
You can then select the location of the Favorite from the list below.
Give your Favorite a name that is easy to remember. Your ONE will always suggest
a name, usually the address of the Favorite. To enter the name, just start typing.
You don’t have to delete the suggested name.
