I have a Lawn Boy model number 55382 that I am trying to figure out how to take the front auger shaft out so I can tear the gear box that turns the auger apart to see what is wrong with it.
I have craftsman 5HP snow blower it starts up fine Then die after a minute or two and also leaking gas around the carburator. Please help me to solve the problem.
No brake down on gear box for auger, part #740013 and its DISCONTINUED, belt # 700035
sheer pins 700104 , this was made in 1988 lawnboy bought gilson this was a gilson, many parts are
now discontinued .
Be careful when buying a new 2 stage there are many out there now that engines are made in china
even on Mtd, look for briggs or honda tecumseh went out this year .
good luck

Whoever had the snowblower prior to my neighbor buying it didn't maintain it very well and now when it runs the front auger turns some, then doesn't so I am thinking either the worm gear is jumping off the gear or the gear on the shaft is worn down. I would like to take off the two halves but the housing is welded together from the factory and not bolted so in order to take the halves off I would have to pull the gear box out enough so I could pull halves off since the shaft the halves bolt on goes about halfway to the outer edge of the housing.
I have a 20 yr old Topflite (MTD) snowblower. I think a shearpin in auger gearbox is broken but I can't get at it. Any suggestions?
thanks,
