Liftmaster door won't reverse

After installing new worm gear, etc. motor works fine in clockwise direction, but does not reverse. RPM sensor is on and there is no play in the gear. The contact on the limit switch assembly is reached and any further attempts to get the motor to work result in clicks only.

SOURCE: Replace liftmaster 1245R drive/worm gear

Look at another web re how to replace a stripped gear of a garage door opener. Look at "galtrying" concerns. I have posted a quote on how I did mine with motor out. Easy as a piece of cake.

SOURCE: replaced sprocket and worm gear on chamberlain 1/2 opener

CHECK THE RPM SENSOR A LITTLE CUP ON THE MOTOR SHAFT. IF IT IS NOT INSTALLED SO THAT IT INTERUPTS THE SENSOR THE OPENER WILL GO 6-8 INCHES AND STOP.(AND BLINK 5 TIMES)

ONCE YOU GET THE LITTLE WHITE CUP PROPERLY ALIGNED YOU WILL NEED TO RESET YOUR TRAVEL LIMITS AND TEST YOUR REVERSE / SENSITIVITY SETTINGS.

HOPE THIS HELPS

After worm gear repair, the door which is in the closed position ,on activating remote, wants to go down. Then it pauses and reverses a quarter turn. Even disconnected from door it still wants to go down....

Make sure you put the black cup back on the end of the motor shaft and that it is pressed all the way on. Make sure the RPM sensor is plugged in. If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Loosen that coupler up and from the front of the motor (opposite end in which the coupler is on) push the shaft back as far as it will go. Hold it there while you tighten the coupler back up and then try it.

Garage door opener problem bench testing motor goes 1 direction then reverses instantly, newly replaced plastic gears

There are a couple things that can cause this. One is your door sensors are not connected to the opener and the other is:

If neither of these are the issue, then you probably did not have the motor shaft pushed all the way back when you tightened the coupler after replacing the worm gear. Liftmaster 1265 won't motor more than a foot in the down

Check, The black interruptor cup. See if it has powder from gear on it , Remove particles, And run a Q-Tip between the two little towers on the RPM sensor, Which the interruptor cup rotates into to count rpm cycles.

Liftmaster tries to close instead of open door

Remove the chain from the sprocket and then run the motor until the sprocket turns clockwise and stops. With the door in the closed position and everything attached to it, replace the chain and tighten. This will get everything back into sync. You will most likely have to tweak the up and down limits a bit. Do not over tighten the chain. It should sag just a little.
