My acer aspire 5742z shut itself down and wont go back on when i press on button the orange light with the bulb flashes and nothing else happens tried taking battery out and unplugging and holding on button to remove static but never made a differance.
Press it on without the battery if this does not solve then there is some fault in the motherboard of the laptop better take it to the technician

you got a bad battery. If your old battery works fine, and the new one wont hold a charge, Take it back to the store and get another.

Try also taking out the hard drive and the dvd drive to make sure that they aren't shorting out the motherboard.
Also try another stick of memory besides the one that came with your laptop to be sure the memory isn't bad.
If after you do these steps you still can't get video then your motherboard is bad.

Hi,
Try to connect your PC with the battery on the power outlet if it lights and charge normally. If the lights still orange, try to open the hard disk case and pull it out then try to put it in place again. If still doesn't go, try the memory card and clean it.
But I suspect that the battery has been overly charged. Try to look for another battery of the same model if it works with another and new battery.
