Have new LG 42" LCD and no sound on the 5.1 Surround Sound

Recently got a LG 42" LCD TV with a LG 5.1 DVD/Reciever setup with a SHAW Cable HD box. I've got the channel's all working fine but somehow can't get the sound to come out of the theatre speakers instead of the tv speakers....I'm running a HDMI Cable for the sound and it runs from the TV to the Reciever. Any idea how to get the sound to come out of the floor speakers rather then the TV speakers?

Surround sound 5.1

Does your rca cables go to a surrond sound amplifier or directly to the tv. The tv only has two speakers. If the signal is sent to a seperate receiver it must have a lisyen mode then set to 5.1 surround. The digital optic cable should go to receiver first.

Connecting up

Easy set up, Hook up all the components to the back of the TV normally and then use a stereo cable from the tv to your reciever.
Usually on the tv it says audio out or variable audio out, this will go straight to your reciever on one input allowing all devices on your tv to be hooked through your reciever on one cable and the sound will come from the tv and reciever at the same time or you can turn the audio off on the tv., you can also hook up any optical audio outs from your devices to your reciever as well. This will allow for surround sound to your reciever.

Installed surround sound, no picture on tv

I could not get my TV to recognize an S-video signal from my reciever either. I ended up just bypassing the reciever and running the video straight from the cable box to the TV. It might be a better option anyways as some quality is lost if you run it through the reciever.
