You can get a general purpose "universal remote" and program it but difficult and tough to get all of the functions to work. I would recommend stepping up the price paid for a remote to around 100 - 120 dollars. The one I recommend is the URC remote. This one can be programmed with multiple components to a single button. There are many out there other than URC but it is one the I use and have found to be very reliable.

SOURCE: Why won't older Sanyo VCR playback VHS tape on new HD-LCD TV?

Hello,
The problem is not with your TV. I have had this problem as well and the older the VCR gets the harder it is for it to turn the tape. Does your VCR react the same way with other tapes? Try Fastforwarding the tape about halfway and then test it again.

Audio noise on some, but not all VHS tapes

Hi,

First thing i would say is go for the HI-FI audio would go in and out and pop etc. Adjusting the tracking would bring in the audio, but sometimes the video would get fuzzy. Get the picture right and the audio goes out. Switch to Linear (mono on some VCRs) and the audio should be fine.

Finally if this doesn't solve your problem then i would suggest you to give it to repair and they will fix it.

Goodluck..

Magnavox dv220mw9 the vcr player won't play

Someone will have to open the unit to see what is happening---either tape is not loading all the way or when FF or Rewind hit not moving the reels----could be as simple as a belt or a bad drive idler (most use either a rubber wheel or gears to move the tape in Play, FF, and Rewind.

If the entire VHS is full then you can easily transfer the VHS contents to the DVD. The video will play while it is recording onto the DVD, but you don't have to have it hooked up to any TV for it to record. Now if you don't know how long the VHS content is that you want to record to DVD, then you will have to hook up the player to a TV so that you can press stop when you reach the end of the content you want recorded. At least this is true in the way that I use to transfer VHS to DVD:

1) Turn on the unit
2) Insert VHS tape
3) Insert DVD-+R or DVD-+ RW
4) Using remote, press VCR
5)Using remote, press play then pause the tape where you want to start recording.
6)Using remote, press DVD
7) Using the remote, press DUBBING. The VHS should start to play and the DVD should start recording

When using this method, don't hit the RECORD button!

I hope this helps!

How do I record a vhs tape to dvd on a Magnavox ZV427MG9 so that it can play on a regular dvd player?

At the end of the recording you need to finalise the DVD disk. It puts in the digital format needed to read on other dvd players.

My JVC DR-MV150B plays prerecorded VHS tapes fine.

Try opening the front hatch of the tape by pressing the small, square button on the right or left (short) side of the tape. Check the black tape inside for any marks, dirt, scratches, tears, etc. If the tape is fine then your unit needs to be cleaned with a tape cleaner available at any electronics specialty or retail store. Good luck to you!

Play the video on your through your recorder if possible, then record it that way. It works for me. Just go to your watch tv setting and record it off channel three while the vcr plays the video.

VHS Recording Tape

not much of a help but sounds like your record head is bad on the vhs heads,

use cleaning tape try that, if that fixes great, if it helps but not fully there, you might have to clean them by hand with very soft paper town and rubbing alcohol rub side to side very easy , if none of the above work you have a bad record head or record board, not worth repair vs cost
good luck
