SOURCE: Freezer drain line and upper drain pan freezes up regularly.

sounds like your fill tube is leaking
you should be able to pull it out from the back of the machine
to inspect it
if the fill tab on the tube is facing in any other direction than down it should be straight down

SOURCE: Ice freezes in freezer bottom and drain stops up

Also check for bad door gasket or door left open for long period of time. There is a solution, you can install a low heat heater into the drain hole and connected it to defrost heater wires. Good luck.

Clogged drain plug

Happens to me too. The drain freezes, freezer floor freezes and then ice starts building up to the point where it forms in the fan area and then the blades hit the fan and it gets very noisy. In my case, the container that is supposed to carry the defrosted water to the drain has a electric wire running underneath and twisting around the drain hole. I believe this wire is supposed to heat up and melt the ice to stop the drain hole from freezing. I believe the heating mechanism has failed in my case and suspect the same for you. Until fixed, this will continue to freeze up every so often. Search for your LG freezer drain heating element or parts.

The fridge keeps freezing over

The evaporator coil is freezing, there could be a number of reasons.

a) drain line is clogged... defrost the fridge and shoot short bursts of compressed air into the drain to clear the clog
b) the defrost sensor on the evaporator coil is faulty... replace the sensor
c) the freezer is so PACKED as to impede air flow... stop stuffing your freezer
d) the defrost timer, defrost coil, etc. is faulty... replace as required

You could defrost your evaporator coil by turning off the fridge for several hours with the doors open, blow dryer, heat gun, etc... depending on skill level

Freezer and drain freezing up

you either have a blocked drain in the freezer or a bad, failing defrost element, timer.

If you have a manual for you fridge you can locate the place to check for blockage in the drainline. I you dont have a manual you can check online at searspartdirect and locate one.

The heating element for the defroster is located right beneath the freezer coils so you need to take the inner panels off the inside of the freezer to get to those.

You can replace the heating element and timer fairly easily. You should be able to buy both of them for around 90-100 bucks if necessary. But try clearing the draining first. You can test the line by defrosting the fridge and pouring some water into the drain and see how quickly it goes into the drainpan below the fridge.

Good luck and be careful.

Ice is forming at the bottom of the freezer and freezing the bottom draw shut. it doesn't appear to be leaking and the door shuts properly. it's supposed to be a frost free freezer....

Causes:

High humidity in the immediate area causing condensation to freeze at the door opening

A frozen defrost drain line not allowing water to drain off when the unit is in defrost

A bad door gasket causing an air leak

Some freezers have a heated perimeter to reduce condensation. If the stop working, moisture can accumulate arounf the door perimeter and freeze.

Leaving the door open too long or something obstructing the door
