There is no dedicated mirror lock-up button, the self-timer does move the mirror out of the way when you press the shutter release and the shutter fires ten seconds later.

Nikon EM (1979?) When I zoom out with my lens, the picture in the viewfinder is very blurry.

What happens when you turn the focus ring? And just out of curiosity, how are you getting to a 30mm setting on a 35-105mm lens?

I'm looking to find a used Nikon em camera and I am seeing a lot of them being sold as just the body alone. How much is the lens for the em and what kind of lens does it use?

The EM can use just about any of the old manual-focus Nikon AI and AI-S lenses. It will not use any of the newer AF-type lenses. There are a few exceptions that require mirror lockup, but I doubt you'll see any of them offered for less than $10,000. Any of the old lenses from 15mm to 2000mm will work fine on the EM. The price, obviously, will depend on the particular lens. In the past year I've bought some of them for as little as $20.

My d40 has a image in viewfinder, will not take picture.

What lens are you using with the D40? Is it an AF-S lens? And is the Mirror Lockup on? Chech the Custom Settings menu. If mirror lockup is on, turn it off.

My d40 gives error message "error press shutter button again"

When do you get this message? Is the Mirror Lockup on? If not, try to take the lens off and screw it in again.

Shutter fires when film advance lever is used.

The problem you describe is common with the EM. I have one myself sitting on the junk pile for the same reason. The body is made of plastic and the plastic around the advance lever is a week point. Your body, unfortunately is not repairable. But there is good news. Because of the low cost of a replacement EM on E-bay (under $30), you should consider keeping your lenses and buying a new body (the standard 50mm f1.8 EM is superbly sharp for a low end lens). Since the EM lenses are interchangeable with later models, you could consider a later model used body. Many are selling for fire sale prices.

I see nothing in the Viewfinder...

The camera has a mirror lock up feature for cleaning the CCD sensor. You may have engaged it. Check your manual about this function

Mirror Lock Up

I haven't heard of any firmware to fix this but you're not alone. A number of people suffer the problem. Rather than me just copying and pasting try googling "Nikon D50 mirror Lockup problem. There's plenty to read up on. You should find a solution, good luck.
