Replaced the lamp on Sony wega LCD tv, however there is a dark reddish tint at the top. It wasn't there before I replaced the lamp, how do I fix it?

Some of the ICs on the power supply block are damaged. This can possibly due to high voltage or defective IC. What you can do now is to get a new PS block. If you can get me the part number i can help you find it..

sounds like your optical block lenses has melted due to heat.
( common problem) here is the light engine/optical block number

I have the same issue, and it appears to be the optical block. Sony has extended the warranty to replace these through June 2010.

lamp replacement is very easy and mentioned in related instruction manual of TV. Please buy original Sony lamp from Sony Accessories Store and avoid aftermarket / cheap lamp.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is a very common problem on the older sony wega tv's that were rear projection LCD sets. You will see dark bluish corners of the screen. It will get worse and there is no cheap way to fix it. All of these sets have this disease. In some rare cases Sony will repair out of warranty. You probably noticed this soon after you replaced the lamp on your TV. Some of the replacement lamps burn hotter than intended and start melting the glue that holds the light tunnel and LCD panels together to the light engine. In order to fix, you would have to replace the entire light engine assembly.

My Sony Trinatron has suddenly displayed a dark screen on all channels. You can see the picture but looks like it's nightime. I've tried ajusting the brightness but no result.
Hello,

does the TV bring out sound even as the screen display is dark?

Problem should be from the TV lamp/bulb. When a TV bulb/lamp is dying, it makes the pictire on the screen become dark and very hard to see.

Have the lamp replaced and hopefully, your screen should be perfect as before.

Let me know if you need directions in replacing the lamp, even though it is very simple replace.

We purchased a sony wega hd lcd projection tv. The set had a great picture until the lamp had to be replaced. The screen got progressively darker until the screen went completely dark. After the lamp...
It sounds to me like you got a fingerprint on the lamp when you installed it. The oils in your skin can cause all kinds of problems on a lamp that gets soo hot. I recommend replacing the lamp again and using a tissue or sterile glove to hadle the new bulb. Also, before replacing the lamp make sure to clean and vacuum out the light engine box and fan.

If the problem persists, then the LCD panels inside the light engine have been heat damaged. There is a class action lawsuit in New York that is trying to extend the light engine warrantee on Wega TVs. You should give Sony a call at 1-800-222-SONY for information and more assistance.

ok if you just replaced the lamp and you have the message for the lamp you will need to reset the lamp timer here is the link

and for the tint color in your sreen well that is a issue with the LCD chips it looks like they are burning out and this problem will get worst you need to replace the OPTICAL BLOCK

Dark picture is indication that tv needs new lamp.
Replace lamp in tv get bright picture, please buy Sony original lamp for good picture in tv.

I replaced the lamp. now I have discoloration, Red on top and blue on the bottom
Your TV is an LCD rear projection type which requires a Mercury Vapor lamp. Mercury Vapor lamps emit UV light which is damaging to many materials. The discoloration you are seeing on the screen is the UV damage that has resulted over time to the LCD panels within the “Optical Block” (aka projector) of the TV. This discoloration has been creeping up on you for sometime, it just wasn’t as noticeable until you changed the lamp. Once you installed the new lamp, the UV light is bad at full force and the damage progresses at a quicker pace, due to the already weakened state of the LCD panels. Additionally, the picture is now brighter, exposing the damage for you to clearly see. The only fix for this problem is to replaced the Optical Block… an expensive repair. Although this is not good news, I hope this helps you understand the cause & solution and was of some assistance.

Picture is dark
Adjust video settings:
  1. Press Wega Gate
  2. Select Settings
  3. Highlight Video
  4. Press + to select
  5. Adjust/increase the brightness.
  6. Press Wega gate to exit.
If picture is still dark, you need to replace the lamp again. Sony recommends that you replace the lamp:
  1. After approximately 8,000 hours of use.
  2. When the screen becomes dark or the color becomes unusual.
  3. When the lamp indicator on the front of the TV flashes.
