KitchenAid 600, Stand Mixer - Loud grinding noise, happened when mixing bread dough. When bowl is lowered (dough hook disengaged)....no noise, hook turns. When bowl is raised so that hook engages dough, NOISE and hook stops turning. What have I broken ? Any suggestions to fix will be most appreciated.

    I have same problem with my KitchenAid Bowl lift Stand mixer. While making bread today it stopped rotating and it makes this loud chainsaw like noise. I tried plugging it unplugging it, moving it up and down nothing. THe noise is really loud and it wont turn anymore. My mixer is 4 years old.

Hi. Stop using your mixer. If your mixer is still covered by warranty, call Kitchenaid Customer Service, they are very good with warranty repairs.

If your mixer is out of warranty, remove the silver band that surrounds the top of mixer. Remove the top cover. At the front of the mixer, locate the transmission housing which is now exposed. Examine this housing carefully for cracks. If you find cracks anywhere in this housing, you have found the under-engineered plastic transmission housing. Kitchenaid's replacement housing is made of metal. Your plastic housing has no business being in a mixer that is marketed as being able to mix bread dough. It cannot!

If you're confident that you can make the repairs yourself, go to the Kitchenaid website and download the parts drawings. Remove the Trans. housing, remove the worm gear shaft assembly which is driven by the motor.. Remove and save as much grease as necessary to thoroughly inspect the worm gear. Inspect the worm shaft bearings. Look for cracks, or missing pieces on the bearings. Look for crunched cogs on all gears. Be prepared to wait at least a month for your parts to arrive after you order them. The replacement grease should be Shell Darina 2, or Chevron FM ALC EP 2.

If you're not confident about repairing this yourself, call Kitchenaid and determine the nearest "approved" repair shop.

You may be able to pressure Kitchenaid to pay for the damaged parts in your mixer. They are still installing these plastic Trans. housing on new mixers. Insist on a metal cover when replacing. Apparently, Kitchenaid feels no shame in their manufacturing process, and will not issue a recall notice for these housings. They are substandard at best.

If the beater is grinding when it meets resistance, it generally indicates that an internal gear has broken or been stripped.

With the Professional 600 stand mixer, up to 14 cups of white flour or only 8 cups of any flour are recommended at one time. Speed 2 is the only speed that should be used for bread dough and it should never be kneaded for longer than 7 minutes. Failure to do any of these things make cause problems for the mixer motor.

All right, I'm pretty irritated with Kitchenaid to say the least! I have a lightly used 3 year old Kitchenaid 600 professional stand mixer (model KP26M1XPM). The few times I've used it, I've loved it. I went to turn it on to make cookie dough today and the speed is broken. When the lever is placed in the "stir" position, nothing happens. Then, when moved into the "2" position, it goes bananas fast. In fact, fast and super fast are the only speeds it knows.

I'm not generally a fix-it yourself person, but if there's something easy I can do to avoid the 85.00 fix it fee from the "approved" shop the kitchen aid customer service person referred me to, I'd like to take care of the issue myself.

325 k5ss mixer stir speed not working, but works in all other gears

First congrats on the great mixer that you have. next the pro 6 or professional 600 series mixers are of an entirely different design than the one that you have even though they are both bowl lift. Do you really need 6 quarts capacity? The pro series is a 575 watt mixer BTW, and it will have more power available to you IF you are doing bread or a lot of food grinding, if that is a requirement that you have then the 6 / 600 series is the better suited mixer but if all you are doing is general medium to light mixing duties then fix and keep the K5SS it a great machine,

hello step ..... yes. You may have to adjust the height of the bowl a wee bit as it sounds like the dough hook is hitting the side of the bowl..

My KitchenAid mixer clicks when I mix bread dough and any other thick batters. How do i fix it?

Make sure your dough hook isn't bent.... or your bowl doesn't have a dent in it.... and make sure the bowl is properly seated and secure.

Professional 600 - makes loud noise when mixing,often stops as it blends 8 cups of bread flour and "needs a break", flat beater seems to get caught on bottom of bowl - this mixer is 1 yr. old!!

Several things:

The Professional 600 has a metal gear housing with a metal gearing. Because of this, the Professional 600 will generally run louder than other stand mixers that may have a nylon/metal mesh gearing.

How long is the bread dough being mixed for? Kitchenaid stand mixers must be used on speed 2 for bread doughs, using the spiral shaped dough hook, and mixing for no longer than 7 minutes.

If the flat beater is getting caught on the bottom of the bowl, pleasure assure the bowl is being seated correctly. You will place the bowl on the mixer arms on the left and right hand side. You will also want to take your fingers along the back of the bowl, where it butts up against the base of the mixer, and press downward. You will hear an audible click as the bowl falls into a spring latch and allows the bowl to sit flush and secure. If this is not being done, the flat beater may strike the bottom of the bowl.

If this was not the cause of the problem, please consult your Use and Care Guide about the beater to bowl adjustment. This is an easy adjustment made with a flat head screwdriver that can quickly correct the problem of a flat beater hitting the bottom of the bowl.

Used the bread kneading hook, after 10 minutes, smoking

The mixer motor has probably overheated, as proper use and care was not being followed with the stand mixer.

Bread doughs are recommended to be mixed on speed 2 only and never for longer than 7 minutes. With the resistance of a bread dough that is provided against the beater, mixing for over 7 minutes may overheat mixer and cause smoking.

Please consult your use and care guide to refresh your memory about how to properly use your mixer for making bread doughs.

Bread dough hook slips when mixing

This is not a solution but I think you have a serious problem you might have sheared some gear teeth whent the mixer jammed and it only manifests itself under a heavy load, I would take it to a repair guy, those mixers are expensive and it would be worth it.

Mixer stopped turning when I was making bread

You probably have stripped the gear in the head section. It can be replaced, but I would consider this a advanced repair since you need to push steel pins out of the shafts to replace the gears. Use google to find a local repair shop, or fix it yourself if your mechanically inclined, parts are available online (and not that expensive).
