Just check the hard disk cable that it is fitted properly in the hard disk and in the motherboard also.
OR
You buy another cable for hard disk which is called 80 conductor cable.

Pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable acer extensa 542

Your computer tries to "boot" from several devices:
* floppy disk
* CD/DVD optical device
* disk-drive
* external CD/DVD
* USB memory stick
* PXE ("Pre eXecution Environment)

To use PXE, you need "media" -- a network cable connecting yur computer to a "boot-server". The "media test faiure, check cable" reports that no network-cable exists, or that it does exist WITHOUT being connected to a boot-server.

Probably, your computer failed to boot from a DEAD disk-drive, and then tried floppy/CD/USB before checking PXE.

Replace the disk-drive.

Screen gets black

Typically the graphics card went out. Other possibilities include, loose monitor cable or short in the cable, or incorrect graphics driver installed or missing, or monitor is shot (least possible). Things to look for: When booting up are you able to see words in the monitor or is there a series of non-regular error code beeps? If beeps then most likely your graphics card is either loose or fried, or incompatible. If you it works fine, but the light on the monitor turns orange and screen goes black, then it's most likely a loose monitor data cable or there is a short in the cable, or monitor's power cable is loose. Then check both connections, power and data on the monitor, and also where it hooks to the computer make sure it's screwed in snug.

Everything has been working okay on this compaq until this morning. Upon powering up a Red and White HP screen pops up that turns into a black screen which reads quite simply: "Disk Boot...

The computer could not read your copy of Windows from your disk-drive.

Either:
* there is no electrical power getting to the disk-drive (check the power cable)
* the "data" cable between the motherboard and the disk-drive is faulty or not-connected (check it)
* the power-supply in your computer is not supplying power to the disk-drive (try different power-supply)
* the disk-drive itself has "failed" (maybe, the motor that spins the disk-drive has failed)

Take your computer to a professional technician for trouble-shooting.

I turn on the monitor and Compaq 7020 comes on the screen in color for about 2 seconds then goes black. The computer is on and everything is plugged in correctly

use a flahlight see if you can see an image faintly in the screen, if so the backlight is failing. if not, check your VGA or DVI cable connection on both ends. sometimes there is more than one port on the back of the computer, try the other port if you have two of them,

My tosiba a70-kl1 starts up with a black screen and error messages stating "PXE-E61: Media tes failure, check cable" and "PXE-M0F: Eiting PXE rom"

You haved enabled the capability for your computer to "boot" itself by reading from a boot-server connected to your network-cable.

But, the network-cable is unplugged, resulting in the "check cable" message.

What this _could_ mean is that the computer primarily tried, and failed, to boot from your disk-drive, and secondarily tried, and failed, to boot from your CD-ROM, and so it made a tertiary triy, which failed, to boot from the "network", i.e., that your hard-drive is not functioning.

Reboot, and enter "BIOS setup", and disable the "boot from network" option, to get rid of those error-messages. But, it's still possible that your disk-drive is malfunctioning.

Not always the Hard drive, boot into the bios setup utility and de-select network bootfrom the boot options. If it tries to network boot first you will always get that failure.
