Is the cable hooked up through an RF Cable (black cable with screw connection) or is it hooked from a box to your television?

If it comes from the RF Cable, go through your TV Menu and choose to Auto-Scan channels.

If it comes from the box, switch through components until you are on the one your cable box feeds into (ex. AV1, S-Video1, HDMI, etc.) and then use the cable box remote to change channels.

Hi gail dahl,
I am happy to help.
From the Video Menu the Tuning Band must be set to Cable and not to AIR or Antenna. You will nee to run Auto Scan for channels from the Menu also.
I have provided a link to download the manual. http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=KDL40XBR2&LOC=3

Let me know if you need further assistance and please rate this solution. FixYa.

Lost remote mrd 310

most universals will use this method.

Great News!! We can program most Philips Universal Remotes with Automatic Code Searh. Here's how it works on most of our remotes.

Programming with Code Search

1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.

2. Press and hold Code Search button until the red indicator stays on. Release the Code Search button.

3. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blink, then stays lit.

4. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device could be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press the Channel Down button to backtrack through the library until the device changes channel. Pressing Channel Up changes direction to forward again. Press and release the Mute button to install the code.

The above assumes that you want to store the VCR you want under the VCR but, Cable codes under the CBL, etc

Note: if the device does not have a chat channel at a button, you should Play (VCR only) or Power instead.

Here is a Code List on PDF that shoud be universal for most remotes. It worked for me.

Hope this helps you out, good luck.

Changing channels

Sony products are the most commonly supported in the field of IR universal remotes. You may find that your cable box remote can be set to send sony codes or that a generic universal remote can be picked up for a couple bucks from best buy or even sometimes a 7-11

Lost Remote

First you want to go press the menu button on the front of the tv. Second, choose channel set. Third, choose add/delete and manually preset each channel. You can try just adding channel 3 if you have cable. This will turn the tv back on and out of game mode...
