The light on the remote is a battery light. First mistake was buying a store brand fan which are mostly low-end parts. Try adding a different remote w/receiver.

If you get a mobile phone and select its camera, then look at the LED at the front of the remote thru the camera, press some keys on the remote unit and you should see the LED light up on the remote on the mobile phone camera screen (it picks up Infra Red which we can't see). this will let you know if the remote control is working. if it is, the receiver at the indoor unit is either covered with something, check thoroughly, or the receiver is faulted, replace via technician. normally in Hunter fans its not the controller but the receiver goes out, if your controller has a new battery and the receiver doesn't get the signal,, the fan isn't going to work, I've never been able to Locate Hunter receivers, tons of the remotes, you can contact them on line at this link

The simple solution is to turn the wall switch OFF when, the fan is not in use. I really don't think the remote alone is the culprit. Because, you say it happens even when it's in the bureau or in another room. Remote controls for ceiling fans have a very short range and are generally infrared remotes, rather than radio frequency remotes. So, if the infrared signal does not reach the receiver's sensor in the fan, it won't function. If it's a radio frequency remote control, do you have any other remote controlled fans in the house? If so, does the suspect fan seem to turn ON after you have activated the other fan? If that happens, it means both remote controls are on the same frequency. Changing the frequency of one, should solve the problem. See your Owner's Manual for directions on how to reprogram the frequency codes.

If none of the above solves the problem, maybe you should contact the "Ghost Hunters" TV show.

Most fans have green, white, black and blue wires. Green is earth or safety ground, white is neutral, black is for the fan and blue is for the light fixture. Some fans may deviate from these commonly used colors in which case you should consult the instructions. Below are links to instructions for different Hunter remote fans, additional instructions for Hunter remote fans or you can look up your fan by model number or use. It appears that the built-in remote Hunter fans have no provision for controlling a light when the fan is wired from a traditional switch instead of using the included remote, as they have only a green, white and a single black that remains powered constantly to supply the remote receiver. The hand held remote transmitter tells the receiver to switch power to the fan motor and light bulbs as needed.

It is possible that the transmitter or receiver you're using in this room is not working. Try using one of the other remotes with the non-working fan by matching the code of the remote to the fan. If it doesn't work, try selecting a different code on the fan and match it on the remote (in case there's a problem with that particular code in this location). Try all (or as many as you care) codes to see if any codes work with this remote.

By this time, you should have either found a working code with this remote and are all done, or still have a non-working fan. Since you have tried more than one remote - and know that one of them worked in the other room, suspicion falls on a faulty fan or integrated remote receiver. You can replace the fan if you like with a traditional fan and light and purchase an after market or third party RF remote control if you no longer wish to get an integrated remote receiver.

I will assume you checked the batteries? These units have sequence matched signals. The only way to confirm neither has changed is to check both. It works like a garage door opener. 4 pins must match each other. On the remote, this is usually found where the battery goes. You will see the 4 pins. Up or down is the only option for each pin. That was easy. The hard part is getting to the receiver in the fan. At the ceiling there is a cover for the wires. 2 to 4 screws hold it in place. Remove the cover and you will see the receiver unit...probably stuffed in there very tight. Carefully remove the receiver to expose the pins. Check that they match the remote sequence. If they do not match correct to match and all should be good. If they match and the battereis are fresh, the remote or the receiver went bad. In which case you can get a universal, even by Hunter Fans at Home Depot or Lowes will work. Color match the wires if you are a DIY'r. Feedback is appreciated if this helped or not.

Possibly your new equipment doesn't use IR (infared) as the media for the remote. I have used the pyramid and different versions of it for DirecTV/Dish and most everything else for years with no major problems. occasionally a unit will fail, but that happens. If the red light blinks on the "transmitter" (no antenna) it should indicate that it is receiving IR from the remote. The "receiver" (antenna) has to be oriented correctly in front of the unit to be controlled. I put the receiver no closer than 5' to the unit. The signal coming out is a cone shape and it's easier to aim the further away you are. As a test, you could try using the remote to control a stereo or something else, even a fan. If the remote has a led or a dark red plastic cap on the front end, it should be an IR unit.
