My display has frozen and is very faint. Putting it on charge gets it working but as soon as comes off charge freezes again and time locks. No buttons or bezel will work

It looks like you have so called cold push button. In fact there is nothing to do with push button as the fault is in contact or in microchip, but that's a long story to explain. You probably would be able to fix it with my help, but as I understand, your Garmin is brand new and still under the warranty, so, there is no reason to open it yourself and loose the warranty. My advise is to go back to the retailer who sold it and ask to change it for the new one.

If you haven't already done so, try replacing the battery.
You can remove the battery cover with a small coin, check the type (all batteries are marked) and buy a replacement.
