Can you come up with a more descriptive issue than tape won't play?
At the service counter I used to get complaints like the deck is broke.
I asked what is broke about it- Technicians spend a lot of time trying to find out what is not working on a unit and can miss the problem entirely as it is not stated- all this time costs the customer in the long run.
Technicians want to get the problem and deal with it. Something like it has no take-up, or the speed is off or slow, or the deck will not engage play, or the fast winds do not work. Get the idea?

Toshiba dvr670ku - vhs tape won't play, shuts recorder off

look to see if tape will fully load and if FF or REWIND work, if not a transport problem, drive mechanism not moving the tape, unit will sense this and shut unit off----even a problem in the loading mechanism for the VHS tape not loading the tape all the way will do the same thing.

Vhs is stuck in machine. Won't play and won't eject.

There are any number of reasons why it won't play. The loading basket is jammed, the video tape has got tangled up in the mechanical section of the vcr or the loading gears are stripped. Unplug machine and remove top, [screws side and back] if the tape is spewed carefully remove by cutting it and clean tape particles, for any other problem have a technician check it out.

VCR won't load tape all the way

Best to check the tape by comparing it with another tape. There could be damage to the case. Check that you can lift the flap at the front. If all else fails or you find damage on the case of the tape, the tape can be removed and placed inside a new blank tape case. The new tape reels would have to be removed first. It's a bit tricky, but as long as you dont touch the tape itself it should work fine.

New DCR-TRV260 won't play my old tapes

I have the same problem. I just bought a sony handyman and tried to play my old tapes and nothing, not even sound. But I just recorded something using an old tape and it records and I can play that back. I'm thinking maybe over time, somehow all the data on there got erased. Which is really a bummer.

Canon zr700 won't play tape

That is the pinch roller. If it does not press the tape against the capstan, then the tape will not pass the read/write heads. Replace it.

I have a tape which I'm anxious to play to convert to a CD, but it just won't play ! It will fast wind both ways but on play just shuts off. (It hasn't been played for a long time) It does...

If you wind the tape by hand (with a pencil or screw driver etc.)is the tape easy to turn or move from one end to the other with out any binds? If not It may be wound unevenly, smacking it down on a flat surface a few times on each side will usually free it up. Hope this helps.
