Hi I have A freud 2000 and have had it for several years but I only recently removed it from the box (long Story) I was trying to put in the 1/4" collet adapter ad it would not go in at all as long as the secring nut was in place. So I figured that because it was new it might be a little tight. I tried putting in a 1/2" Router bit first thinking this might loosen it up a bit. All that I have succeeded in doing is forcing the collet deeper into its pocket and now it well not come back out and is too wide for a 1/4' bit and too small for the 1/2" bit and I have no idea how to remove it.

I have had a similar problem with my hitachi m 12 v. I ground the end of a long flat piece of metal so that it would fit around the collet. Mine had sort of a lip on it that the home made tool would fit under. the thing I made was shaped like an  open end wrench. I had to grind it down so it would be thin enough to fit under the lip and just fit around the collet. Then I hit it with a small hammer. a few times on each side of the collet. I kept going from one side to the other until the collet popped out.

I have a Freud 2000E plunge router. It is about 10 years old, but I've never changed the router bit I have in it before. Now I want to remove the bit I have in, but cannot turn the bolt to remove it....

Hello Davis gr,My name is larry I am an auth Freud service tech.
The first thing to do before you attempt any repairs is of course to unplug. In the full plunged position make sure the router is locked in position out of the table on its side. You twist to loosen the bit nut
and tap gently on the side of the bit with a rubber hammer
turning it slowly and it will come loose to remove.
second--If the router will not spring up to its top position it is because
the posts that are spring loaded are dry.again you must remove the router from the table clean the postd with a dry cloth and while still locked lubricate with lite oil using a clean cloth the metel posts.
after that with the same rubber hammer tap the base plate and it will come loose
I hope this is some help

I have taken my FT 2000 E to my local saw shop for repair because it would not run. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty speed control switch. After attempting to get the part from Freud twice and...

I have a FT2200 with a bad speed control unit 76348.
8015. Freud no longer supplies this part. I bypassed it, and I am using an external variable speed control supply. The only setback is there is no longer "Torque Control". This presents a problem if the bit burns, but I control the speed of feed. So for, I am getting by. A new one is TOO expensive.

Have a Freud FT 2000 E on which the speed control has failed. Freud no longer has this part. Any suggestions?

If the router operates, and at full power, you could use an aftermarket rheostat for controlling the router speed. Rockler hardware sells one, others retailers may as well.

If this is not an option, a tool repair person (one of those old-timers...the "handy" ones that can improvise repairs and take pride in doing it) may be able to provide an option to keep it working for you.

Hope this helps.

How do I remove the base of a Freud FT2000e router so that I can remove the plunge springs? [email protected]

Hi There, My name is Larry --I am a FREUD DEALER IN CANADA
To answer your question about the router springs. You must first remove the cap carefully to prevent any damage to the speed module. Under the cap you will find two nuts first lock the base and leave about 2 inches for a socket to go over the nut .Remove normally and be careful when you release the base do it slowly it will spring up fast and hard --

Collet on Freud router won't release bit

a new collet won't hurt, but you may try sanding down the inside of your existing collet with 120 - 180 grit sandpaper. also, buff down the router bits

any condensation or moisture that may have gotten on these items can cause almost invisible oxidation that you can remove easily by sanding. DO NOT USE WD40!!!
