Dishwasher will not complete a cycle running for hours on end. How do I diagnose this problem?
SOURCE: Bosch dishwasher cleans but will not drain.
Remove the drain hose where it attaches to the disposal. This area often clogs and will prevent any d/w from draining.

There are no adjustments for cycle timing. What does affect timing is temperature of the water coming into the DW. The hotter your supply water, the shorter the time to cycle, BUT if your water is too hot, the cycle time may become too short to light the NSF 'Sanitize' indicator. But since the cycle is taking so long, this is an indication that the DW's water heater is not heating the water hot enough to advance the countdown timer in a timely manner. The control logic is waiting for the temp to come up to an appropriate level to ensure adequate washing, rinsing or drying times. Likely your display is showing '1' for a long time as a symptom of this problem, as well.

This link http://www.applianceaid.com/boschDW.html has procedures to run self-tests on various Bosch models. I suspect that you can confirm a 'heater fault' on your unit by running the self-test.

This problem invariably relates to a 'heater fault' which has usually been traced to an open solder joint on the control board located behind the switches/indicator lights on front door. If you have a Torx driver, soldering iron & bit of solder, you can effect a repair yourself in about an hour. Otherwise, a replacement control board is required.

If you'd like to attempt replacing the control board yourself, refer to this link for part & DIY information.

mine is doing this too. I am trying to figure out if its the pump.
SOURCE: My Bosch shx46A05UC no longer will drain.....it
I ran into the SAME problem with my Bosch SHX46A06UC /21. The problem ultimately ended up being a clog in the air gap vent, (meaning, SOMEBODY ran the dishwasher without the bottom filter being in place or not in place properly). Remove the air gap cover and upper surface nut to drop the air gap vent into the area under the sink. Disconnect the hoses from the air gap vent filter (placing a bucket under the hose from the dishwasher). Run the drain cycle on the dishwasher. The washer should drain into the bucket and let you know that your pump works and that there are no clogs or kinks in the drain hose. (This will also remove the clog if so). The air gap vent's smaller hose connection is MOST LIKELY where your clog is. Look at the upper end of the air gap vent. You'll see a couple of clips on opposite sides of each other, that hold the air vent cap in place. Using a small screwdriver, (or your hands if you can), depress the clips (or one at a time) to get to the point where you can pull the vent cap off the filter. Either use water or a thin, long blade screwdriver to force any objects out of the filter. You should now have full flow through both branches of the filter. Using water and a rag, clean the vent cap and filter. Mount the air gap vent filter back onto the sink. Reconnect the hoses and remove the dishwasher's internal filter(s) and clean them as well while you're at it, making sure to remove any debris that might remain underneath the filter and has the chance of clogging the unit again.
Run the washer again to test. You should be good!
Cheers!

Hello,
Based on your description I'd say the issue is with the control. Bosch has had a history of this exact problem I'm about to lay out for you and this is the first thing I'd be looking for if called out to service the unit with the symptoms you've described. Heck if you called me with this description I'd be happy to bring you a new control and have a first time complete. ( unless you requested a re-solder option...see below re: my opinion on this )
I digress,
As I've alluded to the issue is within the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ).
My first suggestion would be calling in an authorized bosch servicer if that is an option for you and your budget however, If you cannot afford that option or feel capable of checking this on your own, there`s a way to visually inspect the control yourself. It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board. This will be one of the pins from the heater relay, hence the unit sit`s and takes forever to finish and eventually display's the "1" error ( on models with a display ) because it can`t heat to advance or unless the 2 buttons for "cancel" are pressed.
**My Opinion - if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...but it has to be done well...or it will not last, although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on there behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)**
**Please disconnect the power before attempting any service to the dishwasher. If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau, to service your machine.**
Hope this answer`s your question, let me know if I can assist you further.
