Wall mounting needed for a top mount microwave/hood combination Whirlpool Model MH2175SB1. The cabinet above the stove is too flimsy to support the heavy microwave (50-60 pounds). Called Whirlpool. Sent me to distributor, so not confident something exists to fix exactly. Any ideas?

Hi, It can be but not recommended. When mounting over the stove, counter microwave ovens they also include a wall support brackt that is fastened to the wall studs. After it is mounted correctly the microwave has special slots to accept the bracket and after it is on the wall bracket there will be two long screws that screw through the cabinet above it and screw through the holes in the top of the microwave.

Try unplugging it for a few seconds or turning off the circut breaker to it. This usually resets the unit.

Unplug the range and move it out of the way.
Open the cabinet above the microwave.
Unplug the power cord.
Remove the 2 bolts going through the cabinet into the top of the microwave.
Have a helper hold the microwave in place before these bolts are removed.
After the bolts are out,assist the helper by lowering the front of the MW and lift the back of it off the mounting bracket attached to the wall.
They are heavy and awkward.
A helper must be used.

Frigidaire makes several over-the-range microwave models that are all installed in the same manner. To install correctly, you must have at least 45 1/2 inches from the bottom of the top cabinet to the cooking surface of the stove to provide enough clearance for the microwave. The top cabinet must also be at least 30 inches wide and 12 inches deep. Find someone to help you, then follow the steps below to install your Frigidaire microwave.

Things You'll Need:

• Stud finder or hammer
• Screwdriver
• Drill

Instructions

Pull your range away from the wall so you can work comfortably. If this is not possible, cover it with a drop cloth. Find and mark the locations of the studs in the wall behind the range. They will be either 16 or 24 inches apart.

Follow the instructions on the wall template to mark the location of the mounting bracket and the four anchor holes on the wall and the bottom of the cabinet. Drill the anchor holes. Follow the instructions on the top cabinet template to mark and drill the two holes in the bottom of the cabinet.

Attach the mounting bracket to the wall studs using the six wood screws included with your microwave. Screw the toggle nuts onto the toggle bolts and push one through each of the four drilled holes. Screw each toggle bolt until the nut is snug against the inside of the wall.
Pick up the oven with your helper. Plug the oven into the outlet and slide the oven onto the mounting bracket arms. Push the oven back against the wall. Tighten the two screws on the microwave faceplate to fasten the microwave to the mounting bracket arms.
Attach the louver to the top of the microwave with the three provided screws. Insert the two top cabinet screws and washers from the top cabinet into the microwave and fasten tightly.

Take care.

Typically the power cord on above the stove microwaves exit from the top of the oven. That way the oven can be mounted to the wall and the power cord can be routed up to an outlet in the cabinet above the microwave.

IS THERE A PLATE HOOKED TO THE WALL IT IS RESTING ON. TRY PUSHING UP THEN OUT. IF THERE IS A CABINET ABOVE IT YOU MAY HAVE TO LOOSEN IT ALSO

Jim here. In cabinet above microwave, locate 2 mounting bolts.
Place a box on the stove top to support the microwave once the mounting bolts are removed (you may wish to cover the box with a thick towel or small throw rug).
Procedure:
1. Unplug microwave.
2. Remove both mounting bolts from top of microwave (they secure it to the overhead cabinet).
3. With microwave front angled down onto box, pull some of power cord out of hole (to provide some moving space).
4. With microwave hand supported, remove box from stove top (a second set of hands would be helpful here).
5. HARD PART- detach top of microwave back from wall mounting plate by placing a hand under the bottom rear of the microwave and pushing up. (Wall mounting plate is screwed into the wall behind the microwave and provides both top and bottom support to the back of the microwave.)
6. Lower front of microwave until you can see about a 1-inch clearance between the top-rear of the microwave and the cabinet above it.
7. Firmly lift the microwave straight up and then bring forward. It should be free of the wall mounting plate.

We put false doors on the back of the peninsula, mounted the wall mounts on the inside of these doors and then connected it to the top.

If you are referring to an over your stove combination microwave/ vent system then they are typically secured thru the cabinet above them. Try opening the cabinet directly over the oven ( you may need a step ladder to see the mounting hardware) and look near the front of that cabinet for two screws on the bottom of that cabinet. These two screws go thru the cabinet and support the front of the microwave oven. You may also see the power cord for that mircrowave oven plugged into a receptacle inside that cabinet. Unplug that cord and then begin unscrewing the two screws. ( it's best if you have a helper work with you).. as you unscrew them, the front of the microwave should begin to drop down a bit. Once the screws are removed, you should be able to lift the back panel up a little bit to free the microwave of the wall mounting bracket. Once that is doen, you will be able to remove the microwave. I am assuming that your microwave does not have any vent pipe secured to it. If it does, then you will need to seperate that from the microwave vent on top ( assuming it is venting thru the top) .. These microwaves can be vented in any of 3 ways, thru the top, outthe back or configured to vent back into the room. In any case, you should see ductwork while removing this from the cabinet. You put a mounting plate on the wall behind where the unit will be mounted. Then the microwave hooks onto the bottom of the mounting plate and you swing it up to the cabinet above it. Then you must screw 2 mounting screws through the floor of the cabinet above into the bracket on top of the microwave.
