My Kodak 5100 Easyshare printer will not scan or copy

I have been on the phone with Kodak service personnel for three days. I tell them the I cannot print, copy, or scan using my 5100 Easyshare all in One printer/scanner/copier. They tell me to download the new Easyshare software and firmware which I have done numerous times, but nothing seems to work. I'm ready to trash the damn thing, it's given me nothing but headaches since I bought it.My first one was replaced by Kodak; I've also replaced a number of printheads. Except that it's slow and clunky, but it does a good job when it works, which was seldom in the past and never in the present.

I have purchased two sets of the ink cartridges and so far only the sample cartridges that came with the printer have worked. I bought the printer b/c the cartridges were supposed to be cheaper, but not if you have to keep buying them to get one that works??!!! What do i do, one time it prints color, one time it prints black, but it won't print both at the same time!

My kodak 5100 all in one printer will not print. I just change the printhead, because some lines would print and other would be very light. Now it will not print @ all.

Call the Kodak customer service number and tell them that you need a new printhead, that's the device that your cartridges fit into.  They know that they have a problem but they will ask you to print a test sheet anyway.  They should ship you a new printhead within about five days - at no cost.  The printhead only seems to last about 4-6 months with my occasional use.  Tell them that they should replace the ink cartridges since you used probably used up the ones in the printer trying to do the diagnostics of cleaning the printhead.  They may not replace the cartridges but we should give them a hard time since it's their problem.

The solution to unplug it does not work if you are have a "replace color cartridge" or "replace black cartridge" error. I tried every trouble shooting option available and nothing worked. I called Kodak (good luck understanding them they only have ESL-English as a second langauge--people working. They told me they would send me a replacement cartridge...still waiting on that to happen but I'm not holding my breath.

Turn the printer off. Unplug the USB cable AND the power cord. Wait 15 - 20 seconds. This will clear any error codes.

I have to agree with you Zeizz. We bought our 5100 in the fall of 2007. After...

Tip of the day:

DO NOT buy a KODAK printer. It is pure **** but worse is the service you'll get from Kodak when you run into a problem.

Their service or lack of service makes me wonder if KODAK isn't about to go into receivership. There is such a desperate tone to their way of doing business these days it makes you wonder.

I've owned all HP printers at home and at work and NEVER had a problem with one of them.

The Koday 5500 displayed a printhead error the same day I purchased it and the issue hasn't gone away.

Stay away from ****.

Black ink is faded or doesn't print at all

Once installed, Kodak All-in-One printer Home Center software allows you to print, copy, scan, and configure your All-in-One printer from your Windows XP or Vista computer.
To open the Home Center software window on your computer, use the Home Center icon on the Desktop or in the Start Menu

From the All-in-One printer Home Center main menu, selecting one of the six menu items enables you to:
  • Scan pictures and documents
  • Enhance and copy pictures
  • Enhance and print images
  • Configure settings for printing, copying, and scanning from the control panel
  • Access the Kodak Tips and Projects Center Web site.
  • Order supplies from the Kodak Web site.
