The light & engine are on the main PCM,not the Gem. Only the PATS security system is on both modules

Thank you, is this a problem that can be diagnosed on a machine? or some other way? I haven't taken it to a mechanic yet and would like to know what to tell them when I do. I appreciate this information and hope that this wont cost as much as it sounds to fix.

There are no machines or computers used to work on or diagnose any vehicles A repair shop can explain the tools they use if you ask

Could be a windshile leak down the A-Pillar & water
gets into the delayed accy relay for the GEM Module
(Body Computer as ford called it for a few years) & you
get what you have now

Try Goolge as I did a few weeks ago for a relative
He had the same issue with the blower being on &
killing the battery

No real fix I found for the windshield leak
Seem a robot didn't put the rubber sealant
on correctly at the factory fo about 5 years
on several fords.

If it isn't water related then the GEM Module
controls all those body features

If you get a used one & match up the numbers,
you supposedly can avoid buying a reman gem
& the expense of having to reflash it to your factory
built combination

My alarm goes off intermittently

Try resetting the alarm, using the instructions given at the link below. I'll also copy the text here.

  1. Insert the ignition/door key in the door lock on the driver's- side door of your Mountaineer.
  2. Turn the key to the lock position.
  3. Turn your key to the unlock position.
  4. Turn your key to the lock position.
  5. Turn your key to the unlock position. Your alarm is now disabled. If your key fob works, you can also press the unlock or alarm-disable button on the fob.
  6. Start the Mountaineer's engine and allow the vehicle to run for at least 10 minutes. This will allow the alarm to relearn the default settings. You must make sure that you have disabled the alarm first, however, before you attempt to start the vehicle, so that the alarm will reset itself.

If these instructions don't work, you can try resetting the car's computer by unplugging the battery for half an hour. However, that will reset the keyless entry code, as you can see in the fixya article I link to at the bottom

2001 mercury mountaineer starts fine but sometimes won't start at all

I'm going to first assume that you've checked the battery terminals for gunk build-up. If the electrical system is OK, then the problem likely lies in the gas delivery. You might want to check out the starter anyway. Also, replace the fuel filter and put some Sea Foam or equivalent carb/electric ignition jet cleaner in the gas tank. I might add that your car is 17 years old. Start looking. . .

2003 mercury mountaineer it is starting to **** or feels like it's skipping when i am driving.. really noticable once it hits 60mph +

Sounds like a cylinder misfire to me. Scan your computer system for fault codes. If no codes are present, you can use mode 6 data to determine which cylinder or cylinders are not contributing and diagnose and repair accordingly.

My 2004 mountaineer does not do anything when you try to start the car, lights and radio work. security light blinks rapidly when i try to start, but car does not even try to turn over, any suggestions

Security is set. Lock the car up. open it with the key and turn it on. this usually resets the security. If it doesn't use the key fob while its still on and unlock it.

We turn the key and we get nothing! If you hook jumper cables up to the battery and to another vehicle, then it will start after a few minutes. The battery is brand new, and we just put a new starter on...

Brand new battery or not, from what you describe, it is clearly flat.

Only 2 possibilities here. Either the new battery you bought is defective (Its very rare, but it hapens) or the charging system on your vehicle is faulty and the battery isn't getting recharged.

If you have a volt meter, then test the battery when the engine is running and see what the voltage is, if it's as poorly charged as you have described, the voltage should drop slightly when you turn the engine off.

A very easy test of the charging system if you can't find a volt meter is to sit in the car with the door open, start the engine and watch the interior light as you turn on every electrical system in the car. If the interior light dims then you have a charging problem.

The rear brake lights won't go out no matter what we do. (2003 Mercury Mountaineer) We tried starting the car...putting it in gear...backing up...going forward...turning headlights on and...

You have a faulty Brake Light Switch, and it is stuck on.

Replace your brakelight switch. Until you replace it, you could pull the breaker out of the fuse panel in order to keep your battery from dying.
