Keyboard is psycho, typing different letters each time a key is hit in different programs.

Keyboard is typing wrong letters in some programs and will not type an "h" at all. Each key will type many different letters when touched, but if held down for repeat it repeats the same letter. The non-letter keys type correctly. The number keys will type different numbers. I have had this keyboard for a long time and never had this problem before. It is the Microsoft Wireless Intellitype Keyboard.

First of all make sure the batteries are fresh. Download the latest driver. Make sure the path to the wireless dongle is OK, not blocked. Re-seat the dongle. If all else fails try a wired keyboard. Consider getting a new keyboard.

Testimonial: "I do go through a lot of batteries with it, so that is a possibility. The dongle is okay and I can try a wired keyboard if all else fails, but I went wireless because the cords were too short, but I do have several extensions now, so that is not a problem. Thank you these are great suggestions. "

Sounds like your num lock has been toggled on by mistake. Look for a key that says NmLK. It will be in the same color blue. That key may also be the scroll lock key(ScrLk) that should solve your problem.

Thanks

It sounds like your keyboard is starting to go. Try plugging a usb keyboard and using that. If your keyboard needs replacing, it may be around $50, but that will depend.

Click ? 'Regional and Language Services' ? 'Languages' ? 'Details' ? 'Key Settings'
2.Select the option 'Switch Between Input Languages' and click on 'Change Key Sequence'
3.Ensure that all the check boxes are unchecked in this window and do the same for 'Switch to...(Keyboard Type)'
4.Click ?
'Ok' ? 'Ok' ? 'Apply' ? 'Ok'.

Examine your keyboard for any build-up of dust, dirt, liquids or other particles that could be causing the keys to type the wrong characters. Allow any loose dirt to fall out by inverting and shaking the keyboard lightly.
Confirm that your keyboard is set to the English language. Go to your control panel and click on the "Regional and Language Options" icon. If the setting appears to be in a foreign language, change it to English/U.S.
Check if your number lock key is on. If so, depress the key to disengage it.
Run a character key test by using the Microsoft Keyboard Diagnostics (MSKEY) program. While in the MSKEY program, hit several keys to make certain that they are the same keys that are identified in the MSKEY window. To start MSKEY in Windows Vista, select "All Programs>>Accessories>>Run" from the Start menu. Type "mskey" in the box and depress the "OK" button. Start MSKEY In Windows XP by clicking on "Run" from the Start menu. Type "mskey" in the Open box, then hit "OK." Depress either "PS/2" or "USB" to apply it to your type of keyboard hookup. MSKEY software is only available with Microsoft IntelliType version 1.1 or later.
Remember to clean your keyboard regularly to keep it free of dust and debris.
Don't disassemble the keyboard because it may affect the validity of your manufacturer warranty!

A key (which one?) changes the letters all keys type

You're hitting SHIFT and CTRL -- which changes the keyboard input method, i.e., for French keyboard, or for DVORAK keyboard, or for Scandinavian keyboard.

Access CONTROL PANEL, and use REGIONAL settings to "uninstall" all keyboard-layouts that you _never_ use.
