Thank You David, I do not get any sound no matter what. Not even from the head phone jack. Do you think the processor is gone and activated all of the system mutes? What do you think?
I check the fuse inside of the base module and it is still good.

I have the same problem. Display went out long ago, but system worked.
Now, no audio from speakers or headset jack. The CD player spins, so the unit has power. Where do you get the repair parts?

Hi, The dead display is possibly down to a capacitor problem, see fixes already covered by me, it's a 33uF capacitor either on the display board or if a newer unit on the main pcb, these cost less than $1 there is only one just change it.
The no audio may be a simple fix, do you have sound from the head set socket?, if yes then look for one of my other fixes on changing a resistor near the control socket, if no then I need to have a think... If the unit has no sound or display after changing the capacitor it could be a power supply fault. Fix the display first and let me know.

Hi, I think we need to take this a step at a time. If you are not getting any sound even from the audio socket, the problem will be in the head unit (CD 5) and not the Accoustimass module.

Does the display now work after changing the capacitor C19 33uF 63v? if no, does the CD spin? if no it could be a power supply fault. Let me know. and then we can take the next step.

Bose products are highly proprietary. If they have non-standard connectors from the amp or in the speakers I'd take that as a clue they're NOT compatible with other manufacturers' products.

Our Bose lifestyle 5 has no sound does the Bose CD disk restore the sound card. Mfg.1997 too old to do this must we buy a new one or does this cost a lot for repair ?

This can be repaired of it's later than a series 1. (not sure if the 1997 model was a series 1) Repair cost will be $225 plus tax (flat rate). Shipping is split between you and Bose. They give you a new 1 year warranty.
Otherwise, Bose can have you trade this in for about 25% off a new, current system.
-If this still powers up, make sure the small 1/8" portion of the input cable (plugged into "system control 1") is in good condition, because you may just need to replace that input cable for a no audio situation. If it's a different series, it will say "zone 1" I think.
In either case, you should call Bose tech support about this. (800-367-4008) Make sure you're with your system so they know what series of LS5 this is.

Pretty much the same problem

I have the same system. I have a Lifestyle and a Sony TV with a Samsung Blueray player. I also have an X-box 360, plus my pc with all my CDs (I-tunes) plays through my bose. Do this:

1. Use the optical cable for the blueray player to the Bose (AUX).
2. Use a digital audio cable from the cable box (either black or orange output) to the Bose CBL-SAT digital input. (it's a single audio cable)
3. For my PC, I'm using a digital cable from the pc to the Bose. I'm using the TV output because it's empty.
4. For my x-box (which I'm not too happy about) I'm using regular red-white audio cables from Bose TV input directly to the TV audio out. (You can play all of the above through this channel, but don't).

I figured the most important high quality sound should come from the blueray player and from watching regular cable tv. For picture, you should be using all HDMI connections.

Hope this helps.

Lifestyle 12, NO AUDIO and a DEAD DISPLAY

You are correct. The display unit is separate from the audio issue. I have tired to work on a few of these units over the years.

Bose is so proprietary in thier electronics and repair that the average electronics technician cannot service them.

Your only luck it to send the units in for service. If you are dead set on wanting the bose units then, $250 may be worth the repair charges to you.

If I was you, I would retire the Bose equipment and go to my local electronics store to purchase a different brand unit.

Dead CD player - everything else is o.k.

Hi, Your unit may already had a mod incorporated, however, I am unable to attach an extract from a Bose Service Bulletin which solves this type of problem, also depending upon which board version you have it can also be down to a potentiometer adjustment. Please send me you e mail address and I will forward you the details.

Bose Lifestyle 5 ~ dead display fix

Hi the fix for a dead display is a faulty capacitor. Depending upon which board version you have, you need to replace the 33 uF / 63 volt capaitor. On some units this is C19 on the display board, on other units this capacitor is mounted on the main board and re-numbered, there is only one 33 uF on the unit so you should be able to find it.
