I got a fatal error while installing the software:MSI.dot4wrp01. I tried HP chat line and download a bunch of updates as instrcuted by the on-line help from HP. It still failed at the same spot.
Try this: Click on start, then go to run and type this command: regsvr32 atl.dll.

Fatal error appears ehen there is a hardware problem in the system... be it the hard disk, RAM anything... check the connections properly inside the cpu and try again. or reinstall the operating system and try again installing the software. if nothing works then you need to replace and see HDD or RAM once...

I have had this same problem. I also installed the different support programs one at a time. It seems that the problem lays with the Image Device Function software (the program needed to be able to use all of the functions of your C5580). I have been able to load just the printer, but then you don't get the scan feature not the CD printer feature. I also contacted HP's help line and then seemed totally oblivious to this problem although it is all over the web. Surprisingly, they had no solution. Disappointing since I have historically had great service from HP products and this was the reason I purchased this product.
