I recently became a notary public and will be getting loan documents to print that come in legal and letter size, all in the same pdf document, mixed. I have 2 drawers, one for letter and one for legal. Is there any way to tell the printer to pull the appropriate size within the job? I'm on a Mac OS 10.7.5

You should configure TRAY 1 as Legal only.
and Tray 2 as plain letter.
Specially when you specify from what tray/paper type to print.
This can be easily configured from the Printer Properties within the Printers and Faxes section of the Control Panel.
Good luck!

sounds like you're dealing with Postscript issues here. Does your HP have postscript drivers installed.
you might want to check on the current Mac drivers through this link

These machines are dumb. They are told to do a certain task by the drivers that you install when you connect a machine to a computer. The task is given by you through your word processor and the method to do it is given by the drivers. The task you want done is to print on legal and letter pages. The only way it can be done is to give only legal pages to print in one go and the letters in the other. Yes it will double your labor but that is the only way. This can be done by selecting either when you give the print command from the word processor. From File->Print.
Printer wont stop paper, if any page length mismatch,Select page length as any size, as well as while shooting the print command select page length as legal & try it. I feel that teflon not rotating properly, result paper jamming at bottom end. If any paper length faulty printer detects the length give message of mis match..Pl check carefully...
