I was watching y Vizio L37 when the sound went out. I thought it might be because the home theater surround sound system had a problem but I can not even get sound through the TV when I disconnect the surround sound system.
I was watching tv, the picture blacked out and came back as white snow.
The picture came back, but no sound.
I had the same thing just happen and I used the following instructions from the Vizio Website for "humming sound" on tv and it worked. My sound is now working!!!!
1- Power off TV
2- Unplug TV from outlet
3- Press and hold in the power button on the TV for 30 seconds (while it is unplugged from the wall)
4- Release the power button
5- Plug in the TV into a different outlet
6- Power the TV back on.
Reset the TV settings.
Thanks chawklet2003 - it worked!
thank you, it worked

No sound on my 32" flat screen Vizio, DVD player , Cable PS2...
Picture but no sound
After owning a 42" Visio TV for about a year, the sound just stopped working. I've tried everything, and occasionally it starts working, so I know its not the settings. I now have speakers hooked up through the DVD player so I can hear it, but wish the sound would work through the TV.
Lack of sound may be related to the headphone jack. If you have used the jack it may not be making consistent contact when the miniplug was removed having distorted the contacts in the jack.
