You could have a video controller problem or a LCD screen problem, what you are seeing is the backlighting but no video information.
To check if you have a video problem, connect an external monitor to your laptop and bootup your laptop, if you see Windows booting up the external monitor then the video controller is OK, and your problem is the LCD screen or the video cable connection on the motherboard (may need reseating).
If you cannot fix the LCD screen then use your laptop with an external monitor.

Hello, I have a Sony VAIO PCG-FXA63 that a coworker gave me. It does nothing, no lights, sounds, or noises. AC power supply checks out ok. Tried new battery no difference. Has DC 19.8 voltage at back of DC...

Maybe unit was already trashed when gifted! Could be corrupted cmos, bad hard drive, bad memory, corrupted OS, bad peripheral. Check with your "friend."

Black screen

Easy Fix! There seems to be a connection problem. If it still powers on, the problem is cable that sends the sigal to the screen. All you have to do is open up the laptop and replace the wire. Simple!

not too sure what you mean here.you can reset bios to default or can set bios to factory reset.to set default ...when you turn on pc ,message at bottom left hand screen indicates which key to press to enter setup(bios setup) note...its very brief;mines f 10 for instance.at startup press this key and select load default then select save settings and exit;then ur pc restarts with default settings.
To reset bios to factory requires disassembly.
you locate rtc and remove battery(looks like large watch battery)for 5 minutes then replace, reassemble and restart pc.you dont need to know what rtc means(real time clock)or what it looks like cos the battery is right next to it.
