The SD1100 uses MMC, MMC Plus, HC MMC Plus, SD, and SDHC cards. MMC cards are all but extinct, so consider it as using only SD and SDHC cards.

If it's a brand new card, it needs to be formatted with the camera. If it's been used before, the files may have been corrupted when plugged into your (or another) computer.

SOURCE: when i insert 4gb memory card into canon power

Your new 4GB memory card is the problem. The card would likely be an SDHC card (look on its front cover). Your A540 camera was designed well before the SDHC format came out, and your camera will not recognize it. Your camera can only use standard SD cards (2GB or less). Here's some from Amazon.

SOURCE: Can i use a 4Gb memory card in a Canon Power shot

No. The A430 is designed to work with SD cards 2GB and smaller. It will not work with the larger SDHC cards.

SOURCE: I have a Canon Power

The A520 is designed to work with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible.

You need to use SD cards 2GB and smaller.

How to unlock memory card?

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

I have a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS gigital elph and when i turn my camera on it says "Card Locked!" I don't know how to unlock my memory card or how it was even locked in the first place....

Take the memory card out of your camera.
Hold it in your right hand.
On the left side you will see a very small slider switch. It will probably be in the down position.
Slide it to the up position and see what happens.
This switch toggles the card between Read/Write and Read Only. If it is on read only it locks the card.

I am taking a class tonight and need to bring the manual for my Canon Power Shot SD 1200 IS. I can only find the small "Getting Started" booklet. I do have a "camera User Guide" for...

The SD1100 and SD1200 are close relatives, so the SD1100 manual would be close. However, you can download the SD1200 manual (and more) from the manufacturer's web site at

Check your camera settings in movie mode for the correct settings for time lapse, normal, slow motion and fast motion. A slow recording memory card will not produce your problem but will take longer to save the file. If you shot the movie in PAL and played it on an NTSC TV, the picture would be in black and white with no sound and vice versa. ALWAYS format the memory card in the camera, never on a PC

I have camera canon sd 1200 IS power shot but it's card locked, so i can't take picture with camera. do you have any solution?

Take the memory card out of your camera and look at it. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Can i get a larger memory for my camera. And where from

The SD1100 can use SDHC cards up to 32GB in size. If you need more memory, you can use multiple cards simply by removing the card in the camera and inserting another one.

You can buy SDHC cards at any department, electronics, or office-supply store.

Memory card not working

you need a computer with a memory card slot, my gateway has one, but my wifes does not. Point being you need to get access to a computer with a memory card slot, then go to my computer, click on your memory card under removable devices, and delete the images manually.

Canon power shot won't upload pics. "Cannot connect to device."

It's very hard to troubleshoot software problems online, and it likely is a software issue. But why put up with the headaches of bad software in the first place? Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

I lost my memory card for a canon power shot sd1100 is and would like to purchase another. where would i find one

just bring your camera in to a radio shack or walmart (best buy) any of those, and have them show you the memory cards for your camera.
Hint: if you are an avid picture taker and don't download often, you may want a larger memory one, any size up to 2GB that is $40 or less is good.
Go for a brand you recognize because some knock of brands may have it's own software like memory it saves and uses to view.
Let me know if this helps.

Try a retailer near you to see if they will allow you to test your camera with a SD card from a display camera.

Good luck, I hope this helps!
