My maytag HAV2558aww top loader filles up with water but dosn't seem to be catching to move the drum back and forth when washing. It makes a loud grinding sound. The belt is fine and the washer still spins in spin mode. Can I fix this on my own and what are the sugested problems and fixes?
Possible that the grinding noise comes from the drum, irregular movement or broken paddles.
You can try and attempt only if equipped with a fundamental understanding of the working .
I shall give you some tips to this click 1..: Washing Machine

Your maytag is really an amana and the bearings are bad. Yes it does cost a lot. If i were you i would buy another washer. Get a whirlpool. (whirlpool now owns maytag)

May be the bearing in your direct drive shaft. If washer is a belt drive, the belt could be frayed
