My maytag hav2558aww wont turn on wash cycle

Possible item caught between basket and outer tub. Remove the front panel and tub top ring. Shine a bright light around the semi-transparent tub and look for item. Check the pump pulley - ride the belt off and spin it by hand. If you feel any resistance or grinding replace the pump.

If the water stops when you stop the cycle, then the pressure sensor is at fault. If you need to turn the water supply off to stop it, then the water inlet valve is at fault.

if this is a two piece agitator,it should behave like a ratchet turn freely clockwise and catch counter clockwise if it doesn't catch the agitator "dogs " are shot this is a verry inexpencive repair

Sounds like the transmission seal had failed sometime back and has leaked the lubricant causing the transmission to overheat and now possibly seizing the gears, if this is the case the transmission will have to be replaced. Depending on the age of the washer, (5 years or less) you should contact Maytag to see if they will compensate you by way of furnishing the new transmission for free, but you will be responseable for the labor charge from a tech to do the replacement.
If they will not cover the part, you will probably be better off to replace the washer than to invest in the cost of a new trans and labor.

make sure that the hose washers have been inserted properly and that the hose connection is not cross threaded it is easy to do

May be the bearing in your direct drive shaft. If washer is a belt drive, the belt could be frayed

Either the fan belt is broken or worn out. Or you need a new motor

I determined that the problem had something to do with the timer control because it stopped all of a sudden and it would do nothing. I determined that it was not the lid switch because it will fill with water even with the lid up.I checked that the outlet had power. So it must be an electrical problem associated with the timer control. I took off the panel on the back of the timer and pushed the connection plugs together to make sure there was good contact. One of them must have been loose because it worked right after.I thought I was going to have to buy a new timer control module but it was just a loose connection.I have seven children and my washer and dryer work day and night. I am learning to become my own technician.

Your drain filter is clogged with debris. Usually small items like dirt, paper, money, and much more. Clean the filter and you should be set to go.

Your maytag is really an amana and the bearings are bad. Yes it does cost a lot. If i were you i would buy another washer. Get a whirlpool. (whirlpool now owns maytag)
