My mom noticed the vacuum was not getting the suction that it used to. On some carpets, it barely picks up dirt. I checked it over and cleaned the filter and the only thing I noticed was the broken catch that secures the pre-motor filter housing in place. Could that be what is causing the suction issue? Any other suggestions? Thanks.

Did you call Dyson? Just call their customer service and see if there have been other complaints like yours. I just got the same model and will be looking out for this.

Hi,
When you turn the roller, you should feel some resistance from the belt. Remove the base blate that surrounds the beater bar. Check the belt. Take care in removing the beater bar, so you can get it back in the same way it comes out. Clean the beater bar while you have the bottom open. If you remove the beater bar to replace the belt, take the time to inspect the cavity behind the beater bar where the vacuum picks up. That is where vacuums usually stop up. Reassemble the vacuum. If necessary, slip the belt over the motor shaft and then slide the roller undre the belt. Install the beater bar back in the sockets and replace the base plate.

Here are some things you can check.First you need to see if the problem is with the suction or agitation. If the suction on the hose for using the attachments is low you either need new filters a new cyclone(they are not cleanable) or it is clogged. To check for a clogg remove the cyclone and turn on the vacuum cleaner.you can put your hand over the suction side of the handle tub and feel if it has suction there.Reinstall the cyclone and again check the hose.If it is the same you don't likley have a suction problem you have an agitation problem. The 2 belts on the DC07 are part of the clutch and when they are strectched to a certain point (3-5years) the clutch needs to be replaced.you can check the clutch by turning on the vacuum cleaner and applying slight pressure downward on the front of the vacuum head.If the vacuum makes a loud ratcheting noise or you can stop the brush from turning the problem is most likely the clutch. One last thing is to make sure the bottom plate is on correctly I often see a misaligned bottom plate and the brush dosen't hit the carpet so it dosen't pick up. www.sewvac.com

Hi The filter is only part of the cleaning process with a Dyson.
I would suggest you get a 2 p peice and unscrew the plastic screws on the base. You will likely find that this area has clogged up. Clean this area out and put soleplate back on.
Also check your u bend and at the side of the Dyson there is a a piece called the valve carriage which also comes off.
You can put your filters, u bend and valve carriage release in the washing machine.
