how long have you been using this player? The problem should be from the lens (laser).

The lens is weak and that's why it cannot read/load Cd's. The weak lens is also what's making it jump.

Get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens, but if the lens still does the same thing even after using the lens cleaner, then it means you would have to change the whole lens completely to a brand new one.

By so doing your player would play all Cd's with no problem at all.

Shut down the computer, load into BIOS, if problem exists, the issue is likely with the monitor, try another monitor, if issue exists, else if in BIOS, the display is perfect, the graphics card driver needs to be updated or the graphics card needs to be replaced.

I had same problem.
Narrowed it down to C637 on logic board.
Replace C637 or logic board.

Try looking on the back of the machine for vertical and or horizontal hold controls (marked V-Hold and H-Hold) and try adjusting them, especially the horizontal hold.

If that doesn't help, then the next troubleshooting step would be if the machine has a video output you could try connecting to a TV/Monitor and see if the graphics appear there.

Check TRC heater voltage (6,3 V., pins 3-4 of TRC socket counting counterclockwise) when picture goes off; if there's no voltage but it appears when picture comes back, look for bad solder joints tracing the circuit backwards to the power supply. Usually, the 6,3 V. tension comes from a single diode-electrolitic cap circuit at the secondary of the power supply transformer.or check this
Pin assignment for a monochrome 9-pin D connector are:
1, 2: Ground
3, 4, 5: not connected
6: intensity control (contrast)
7: video signal input
8: horizontal sync.
9: vertical sync.
Video monochrome cards usable are:MDA (monochrome display adapter) HGA (Hercules graphics adapter) -Some CGA (Color graphics adapter) and EGA (enhanced graphics adapter) cards that have a switch mono-color can also be used.

Its definately fixable. Can you post a picture of what your refering to when you say horizontal lines and jumping? Also do you have any soldering ability or troubleshooting experience? Let me know

connect the dvd to another tv if it gives the same problem,change the video connecting wires.
