Possible that the door switch is broken or jammed,. You need to remove the top cover, open the panel and remove the door and switch , check for broken plastic or lock, If so use glue to stick and reset.

Door latch

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Open Lever If the microwave door won't open the open lever might be broken. This part can be replaced separately.

Door Spring If the microwave door won't open the door spring may have broken. The door spring is located inside the door and keeps downward pressure on the door hook.

Door Latch If the microwave door won't open the door latch might be broken. The door latch is inside the microwave. The door hook, which is part of the door, engages with the latch to keep the door closed during operation. If the door latch or actuator breaks the door may not open.

Door Hook If the microwave door won't open the door hook might not be releasing properly. The door hook is installed inside the door and normally releases when the door is opened. The hook is made of plastic and will break over time. When this happens it will need to be replaced, it can't be repaired.

Button Spring If the microwave door won't open the button spring might be broken internally. The button spring can be replaced.
Button If the microwave door won't open the button might be broken internally. The button can be replaced.

Handle Actuator If the microwave door won't open the handle actuator might be broken. This is a plastic part which can become brittle over time. This part is connected between the door button and the door latch assembly.

The solutions to my microwave prolem (keypad reading commands but keys won't work)didn't help. Do you have a manual I could download?

Try:
1) Unplugging power and plugging back in
or
2) Press Cancel twice while door open (works on my Whirlpool).

Microwave oven will not start after I put in the time. It says open and close door and press start. Still won't start

Probably a bad door switch or mount. The door switch help file is here.

On some models though (you didn't mention yours) the door circuit is very complicated, and may be showing the door error due to a blown fuse or cavity TCO.

Accessing the cavity TCO for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download Whirlpool owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

The drawing below shows what to check:

It is making different kind of noise and won't generate heat.

Most often with MW's the Magnetron fails that as well as the high Voltage Diode. MW's are NOT to be trifled with they are lethal to service and MUST be done by an experienced professional.
The best thing to do is contact Whirlpool, and ask for a referral to an authorised service center, make contact here and when face to face first only ask for a "Quote" as to costings and go from there.

Whirlpool MAX 18 in use since 2003, now opening the door the internal light goes thru multiple on/off cycles, as if some contact or wire in the door is starting to get loose or worn. At this time I can...

Had this kind of problem (and others) related to the fact that the cable from front panel (on door) to the main board won't last forever. Later models don't have this kind of problem as they don't have control panel on the door anymore, for a good reason! For a while, the owen will work then door is closed, but very soon that cable gets more damaged and you have to replace it with a new one (or make a better and longer lasting one yourself).
