I have a Hitachi Wide screen model # 57G500A / manufactured in October 2003 serial # V3J003771
The screen went blurry. the colors seem to run together, and the top of the picture sags. Its like watching a 3D movie without wearing the glasses. Of course I can't find the oweners manual, and I do not have the Hitachi remote that came with the TV any longer.

Remove front panel and check the 6 control knobs adjust the intensity of each color as well as the focus of the picture with those colors.be sure to mark the knobs so you can return them to there original position if the set shuts off. Good luck

Tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead.Tv have colors lines R,G,B mis alignments,have colors shadow pictures or 3D pictures look alike?Yes,the tv convergence board have 2 dead convergence ICS and some or all of it resistors too.These parts must be replaced on the tv convergence board to solved the tv convergence picture problems.The shop,will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors.
Sounds like the convergence board, try replacing the STK voltage regulators and any resistors that may burned or discolored. This problem is causing the power supply to shut down probably.
I know these models came out around 2001, and I'm afraid that the problem sounds like it is related to the bulb going bad.

I know bulb replacement is an option. You may want to call around to TV repair shops and see what your options are. In the end, though, it may be time to start saving up for a new TV.
