See my original post, plus Techman's helpful first step in the thread "Theory of Operation for 55H70?" This is the convergence screen in 480i mode now. 1080i without an input sig looks the same. 1080i with signal is rock solid.
Was this resolved? Did you end up shotgunning it, or working it out in email with techman, or giving up on it? I'm not sure how much help I can be, if he hasn't been able to help you, but if you need some specific information, I can probably find it for you if it exists on the web.
The service menu needs to be reprogrammed.
Did you get a preprogrammed eeprom, or a blank?

Been there. Done that. Besides, the initialization after replacing QA02 wouldn't leave it like this I shouldn't think. But, thanks.
A blank. Now that my assumptions are in doubt, is there a specific item in the service menu you would suggest?
I did note that after the initialization, the settings matched those listed as default in the service manual.

I am thinking it has to be something in "designer/address mode" that I messed up. I have seen listings of these settings for other models posted but I am reluctant to go shotgunning without specific settings for this Toshiba series.
My best recollection is that I hit 'TV/Video', then 'Exit' on the remote as I was leaving Service Mode.
Nothing yet. The only info I can add is that it seems to be related to sync lock. If *any* input does not have a signal source, the TV looks like the photos and shuts down.
I have also noticed that in the service manuals for this and similar chassis, other models have the adjustment procedure for adjusting 'free running horiz osc). The 55H70 does not.
Solved!
This proved to be a TV way out of convergence as a result of my hitting the wrong buttons in Service Mode.
To keep the set from shutting down while coaxing the green convergence rectangles back into place, the red and blue yokes were disconnected. Then red-only; blue-only. The process took a couple hours -- just to get a rough convergence.
Mid way through a final alignment, oscillations began to appear. The grid was still shifted by one rectangle!
This was a very slow process but in the end the 55H70 is back in working order.
