We have had this phone just over a year and used it about three times, we have it for power outages and when our cordless phone doesn't work, but it wasn't a good backup phone today!
It kept disconecting the person, then the person calling couldn't hear me talking (I could hear them), now I cannot dial out............it will dial out on pulse, but not tone. Not hearing the other person, or them not hearing you is not very useful for a phone.
Since we have only had it just over a year and have barely used it, can it be fixed?

Unfortunately, the E4 error is an internal hardware failure. You can try to reset the unit by unplugging the base station's power supply. Remove the phone line cord from the base. Finally remove the batteries from all of the handsets. Wait at least 15 minutes before you reconnect the power, batteries and telephone cable. Place one handset on the base. Wait one minute and check if the phone works.
If you see a message about searching for the base or out of range, then the problem is probably with the transmitter/receiver in the base. In any case, if the TRU9485 is still under warranty (one year), contact Uniden. Otherwise, replace the cordless phone system.
You set the cordless phone back into the charging base. After a few seconds (longer if in need of a charge), the cordless will register with the base establishing the connection required to place and receive calls.
Most cordless phones can be simply reset by taking it out of the base and removing the battery. Put it back in after a minute. Note that you may lose your contacts on your phone when you reset it using this procedure.

On this page is the update for setting the day light saving time function on your clock/radio. You may also have to replace the internal battery in the clock/radios to keep it working up to date. The battery usually has a three year life span. This may be shorten by power outages and leaving the radios unplugged for long periods of time. I hope this information helps you with your problem.(http://www.emersonradio.com/dst.htm) Copy this web link and paste it into the address bar of the browser. First try plugging the unit in and out a couple of times. If that doesn't fix the problem then check the battery packs on the phone units. BTW I meant to plug and unplug power to the base unit. If these solutions don't work then most probable cause is an audio component failure due to the voltage surge on power up. This is normally when most electronics will fail. Hope this helps.
You just need to reset the time to fix this problem. There were three buttons on the back of the base for the day, hour, and minutes. I didn't know they were there!
You can connect up to 4 cordless sets (Operating manuals, page 21, states 3 but they really mean 3 in addition to the one packed with the base, for a total of 4). I've head four connected for over 5 years now and they work fine. In your case, try disconnecting the battery of the cordless for at least 30 seconds, then reconnect. You may also want to disconnect the power cable from the base unit for a half minute or so. I found this method to be equivalent to a cold boot, and quite effective in getting all phones to work again after a storm or power outage.
