The most common problem is the condenser under the refrigerator is clogged with lint.Pull the unit away from the wall for clearance, tip it rearward, and have someone use a vacuum on the dust.

Unplug the unit while working on it and remove what can slide around be careful not to damage the works underneath, as dirt is the whole problem.

Top half of upright freezer is warm

Hello Karen;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

The top half of your freezer is warm because your cooling (evaporator) coil is on the bottom.

With your unit there are generally two cooling problems:

1.) Frozen Drain - You freezer will go through a defrost cycle every 8-10 hours. When this occurs, everything shuts down with the exception of your lights. Your defrost heater turns on for about 20-30 minutes, defrost you cooling coil and them turns your unit back on.

Most common, is that you have a frozen drain. If you have a frozen drain, when your unit goes through the defrost cycle, if your drain is plugged then the condensate builds up on your cooling coil and restricts the air flow. Use a hair dryer and melt the ice.

2.) Freezer fan motor is bad - Your freezer fan motor may be bad. This is easily replaced.

Ok, Lets get it done. I have faith in you.

a.) Unplug your unit.

b.) With a screw driver remove the 6 screws holding the bottom cover. You control may be in the way.

c.) I know you can do this. Remove the back cover. Is you cooling coil blocked with Ice? Defrost with a hair dryer. Do not use metal tools, you may damage the cooling coil.

b.) After defrost, Is you cooling fan running. You can do this as well. There are only two contacts to remove and a ground wire. If it is not running purchase a new one.

I have faith in you Karen. Call me and I will walk you through this.

What is the suitable temperature for 3 star freezer in uk summer?

3 star freezers are not storage freezers and will maintain frozen food for a short time only, They should reach -18c when closed but may come up in temperature quite rapidly when the door is opened. They are usually found as the cooling evaporator in fridges with freezer boxes in. Four star freezers are dedicated freezer storage space and will keep frozen food at the right temperature for some months.

Frigidaire refrigerator compressor overheated when I left the door opne.

the motor of the compressor may have tripped on overload protection. Allow it to cool down and then unplug the fridge then plug it back in and try to run it. It should run. Be advised that the condenser coils underneath need to be clean. You should have a strong person tilt the empty fridge while you vacuum and clean all the dust and lint off the coils. Be gentle as these coils are fragile and are easily damaged. Hope this helps.

Do i put frozen food in my freezer as soon as i get it, or do i have to wait a few hours?

The frozen food will actually help cool the compartment. Just be sure to watch the unit and feel the inside walls to be sure it's actually cooling down. I'm sure you realize that every so often one does NOT cool right from the factory.

If you haven't shopped for the food yet I would wait until you feel it's cold enough. Just in case.

I have a fridgidaire freezer that is just cooling not freezing?

some freezers will not freeze in the freezer department if you are low on freon. the motor cannot produce enough freon to keep your freezer frozen when it is to low, however, you might have the temperature up to high where it has locked up the motor and is sending out all that water underneath. i would check your pan under your refrigerator to see if it needs to be dumped and then replace it back.

Freezer wont cool

This problem could be cause by a few things. Can you tell me if your condenser is clean? If it is dirty, the heat cannot be rejected. Will you feel the large copper line going to the compressor and tell me if it is cold to the touch? If it is not col and your compressor is running you may be low on refrigerant. Also, is the evaporator frozen over? If your evaporator is frozen over you might be low on refrigerant, or you evap fans may be out.
