Is it a newer flat-panel tv? Should have an optical audio output jack. Just connect that to an optical input on the receiver.

SOURCE: Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Solved problem with Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver. My daughter had inadvertently changed the program to "Direct Stereo" mode which allows sources to bypass the decoders and DSP processors so you can listen to 2-Channel PCM and Analog sources. Nothing to decode digital audio in this setting!

SOURCE: what's NEC PF68S33 TV's remote control code for YAMAHA HTR-6130

I had similar problem when setting up the YAMAHA remote control for my NEC LCD TV. At the end I found I did not follow the YAMAHA manual properly. Did you hold down the DTV/CBL button, and AT THE SAME TIME press the AV POWER for 3+ seconds? You should be able to "REMOTE SETUP OK" displayed in the front panel of the YAMAHA AV receiver. Hope this helps. BTW, only the TV POWER, TV MUTE and the numeric buttons work in my case.

SOURCE: how to hook up a xbox 360 console to my yamaha 6130 receiver

You will need an additional HDMI cord...you can get them without getting ripped off by purchasing at bluejeanscable.com.

Connect your HDMI out from the xbox to the receiver. Connect the additional HDMI cable to the "out" HDMI connection on the receiver and connect the other end of it to your TV.

How to connect a turntable connected to a yamaha a450 stereo amplifier...can I attache the a450 to the htr-6130 ?

If the turntable is newer kind you can connect it in any Stereo input like CD, VCR , etc.

If the turntable is older model you can only connect it to PHONO input (if amp has one) and make sure earthing cable is connected on Amp

Remember input is only stereo (unless your model has digital input) and select sound effect eg Pro Logic for enhanced sound,

I have Yahama HTR 6130 and trying to connect it to Aaple TV. Do I need 2 HDMI cables - 1 from Apple TV to the LCD & other from DTH to LCD - and one optical wire from Apple TV to HTR6130?

Sounds about right. I don't think the 6130 will pull audio from an hdmi input. You would have to make a separate audio connection as described.

I have hooked up my DTV box via HDMI to my Yamaha. I have hooked up my Xbox via HDMI to my Yamaha. I have Hooked up my Yamaha via HDMI to my Toshiba flat screen. I can get video from all but I am not...

It could have to do with the settings on each input device (xbox & DVR) -check their audio settings. I have a better solution for your problem though:
Since HDMI supports 7.1 ch of digital sound, I'd recommend using the optical inputs on your HTR-6130 that are made for 5.1 ch sound. I agree that you should be getting sound via HDMI, I was able to from my xbox to my 6130, but it gets cut down to 2 channel sound (good, but pales compared to true 5.1 ch sound). It believe it has to do with Dolby not being backward compatible going from 7.1 to 5.1. Anyhow, in order to get an optical-out on your xbox, you'll need connect with the a/v cables that came with the xbox, along with the HDMI cable. Depending on how old your xbox is, and which model (like an elite edition, etc), You may need to buy a special converter that will allow enough room for both an HDMI connection and the A/V connection. Trust me, I have an HTR-6130 with an xbox and a cable-provider issued box running through it. Optical is the way to go for this particular receiver since it only supports 5.1 ch sound. You can still use the HDMI ports on the receiver as a switch between your two devices, or you could choose to bypass it if you TV has more than one HDMI input port.

If your running the receiver in 5.1 using a center channel, go into the main menu of the receiver and select "speaker settings" toggle to "center channel" and adjust the gain to taste. If you need more help, post a comment and I can help you some more

The HTR-6130 does not decode the audio from the HDMI inputs. It only acts as a switcher. You will need a separate audio connection from the cable box to the HTR-6130.

Yamaha HTR-6130 Front right and left speakers with no sound

As simple as this sounds, try hitting the speaker a/b button on the front of the unit, next to the headphone jack. I had the same problem, and was about to package the whole thing back up and go back to Best Buy when I hit this button and then the audio test worked.
