I have a whirlpool WVG301 freezer and have just had a similar problem with my freezer not freezing and all my food spoiling. Open the plastic cover at the top front above the door. In side is a timer which controls the automatic defrost mechanism. On top of this timer is an adjuster. This timer seemed to get jammed. Give it a slight turn with a screw driver and your compressor might just kick in and work again like mine did!!! You have either got a blockage in the system or there is a leak. My bet it is a leak. Seen this many times on the whirlpool.

WHIRLPOOL UNDER WORKTOP FREEZER APPROX 11 YEARS OLD BEEPING
the temperature control is bad. when you push the fast freeze it bypasses the thermostat for 12-24 hours depending on which model you have. I am not able to find any parts information with the model number provided but you should be able to find a temperature control at any local appliance parts house or online thru any reputable supplier. I have a Whirlpool upright freezer AFG 371/H there is a digital display and lights and buttons, on/off temp alarm etc running across the top of the freezer. None of this works but the freezer is still freezing. i have no idea what the temp is.

I think you should try unplugging it for 5 minutes and then try restarting it and see if it reset.
