Hello atdlee, are you still out thee? Did you fix your Metz 58? What was wrong with it? Mine's just failed so would be interested to hear.

Metz CT-4 flash gun overheated on the shaft the plastic casing overheated and melted the plastic on the handle grip I opened it up and noticed the wires inside were completely Melted.

Unfortunately, from your description, the flash is completely done for - while a repair may be possible, I doubt if it would be economically worthwhile. Replacement is probably the only answer.
What may be more important is to find out why this occurred - is it down to the charger, the batteries or an internal problem with the flash ? Were the batteries those supplied by Metz, or a different make ? If they were Metz ones, then maybe you should inform the manufacturers, to help others avoid this problem, and you might get a replacement flash if it is a manufacturing problem.

I just bought a metz 44 af 1 and it rattles like there's a loose screw in in is this the same with all metz flashes

I've never experienced that with any of my Metz flashes.

Il Metz 5023 non e' compatibile con Canon. Il Metz per Canon e' 58 AF-1, come questo: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=82424

I flash Metz non sono mai universali i flash Metz per Canon funzionano solo su Canon/Nikon.

Metti anche in conto che per installare un flash Metz devi usare un adattatore.

I've had 2 Metz 54MZ4 flash units with my Canon 1Ds and 10D cameras and none of them work in TTL mode. They give full output power in TTL. What is problem?

If your Metz is for Nikon it will not work in TTL on Cannons. Metz makes different flashes for Nikon and Cannon. I have a Metz 54 that I use with my Nikon D200 and it works as well or better than the NIkon SB800 in TTL.

Cannot fire off cameta

If the Metz 44 is older then 3 years, than it's an software problem. I Had the same with the Metz 44AF-C and my EOS 30D. The same metz works well with mij Rebel (300D)
