Hamilton Beach HealthSmart Rx Digital Wrist BP Monitor w/ Dual Memory Logo
Posted on Jan 27, 2009

Dr. says I need to get my monitor calibrated.

My doctor says that my numbers are 10-15 points below her office equipment, which she has regularly calibrated. Is there a way I can calibrate HealthSmart RX or a place I can send or take it locally?

Send it back to the manufacture and tell them whats going on with it and they should be able to adjust it to the right settings or take it to a health care supply store, they may have a technician there who may be able to do it. good luck!

How would I calibrate my WrisTech model number CEN74233CS. It registers almost 20 points above the one my nurse uses in the doctors office.

There is no need to calibrate.
Which number are you referring to, the top number (Systolic) or the bottom number (Diastolic)

Is your nurse using the same WristTech?
I have never heard of a Physician's office using a wrist type
portable blood pressure, they are too wildly inaccurate.

Is your wrist at the level of your heart when you measure it?
Is your arm warm or cold?
Have you eaten recently?
Have you stood up recently?

Are you using a cheap wrist blood pressure device at home
and the nurse is using a standard upper arm blood pressure
cuff that she pumps up at the office?
Major differences would be expected

Blood pressure monitor readings too low, inaccurate

I have used Omron monitors for around 2 years now and I have not found any problem with it. The error may be because you went to the doctor, your blood pressure must have changed since there was a time gap. There is no need to get worried.

WHERE TO FIND TECHNICAN FOR MONITOR CHECK?

I would simply have it done manually at your doctor's office, and then immediately or simutaneously take it (on the other arm) and compare. I've not heard of BP monitors needing any regular recalibration, so I'm not sure I'd worry too much.

The reading is off by 20 points, when I take it to the doctor

Several things can cause this difference in the readings:

1. Anxiety. When you take it at home in a relaxed atmosphere, it probably reads lower than at the doctor's office. It's commonly referred to as "White coat hypertension". In other words you're more nervous in the doctor's office. Or just before you went to the doctor's office or on the way, you drank a cup of coffee or a soda that had caffeine in it or smoked a cigarette. All of those things can temporarily raise your blood pressure.for up to an hour.

2. The BP Monitor needs to be re-calibrated . In which case, the manufacturer will have to do this. Most do it at no charge. You just pay for the shipping to them. Find the contact information in your Owner's Manual and give them a call. Make sure you have the model number handy, when you call.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

My Omron HEM-780 needs to be calibrated. It seems to read about 20 points lower than the blood pressure unit used in my doctor's office. I am not sure if the HEM-780 is capable of being calibrated or...

Recalibration normally has to be done by the manufacturer. As they have to certify the calibration. Keep in mind, that it is not unusual for your BP to read a bit higher at the doctor's office, than it does at home. It's sarcastically called "White coat hypertension." Which translated means, your blood pressure rises a bit at the doctor's office due to anxiety. Or it's being taken at a different time of day, than you take it at home, in a relaxed atmosphere.

Hope this helped you.

Systolic rate is higher than when I was in the Doctor's office the other day. I believe it needs to be re-calibrated. Where can I go to have it re-calibrated.

Jean, recalibration has to be done by the manufacturer of the monitor. They usually offer this at no charge, other than the shipping cost.

Hope this helps you.

Band of samsung deluxe wrist doesn't tighten, reading is therefore always incorrect.

Dear ramariano: This device is probably TOO BIG for YOUR wrist. Just like regular preassure moniters in my Dr office I have different sizes. Measure your wrist circumfrence and get a compatable machine. Dr Ron Grassi,DC.,MS,Jupiter,Florida.

Accuracy problem

Hello martintpjr, the difference could be your physical postion,(sitting, laying) location of cuff(on the fore arm), not as relaxed, cuff/tubing has a air leak,or unit is out of calibration. Eliminate the first four than contact the local college or BioMed shop in the local hospital and KINDLY ask if your unit operation/calibration could be checked. Merry Christmas.
