A 52 error is a Scanner failure. Do you hear a "whirring" sound when you get the error?

That's the sound of the scanner motor running amuck.

You're probably going to have to replace the Laser/Scanner assembly or the DC Controller which controls the Laser/scanner motor.

The problem is usually caused by printing a PDF file with fonts/page size/ page formating errors which will cause the printer to display the 49.3048 error. The only way to use the printer is to POR or recycle the power and delete the print job from the server or spooling device and cancel it on the printer before the offending command is issued to the printer again. You can try updating the firmware to the latest version 46.140.5 from the HP website. MIke L.

just a point of interest have you tried this and have you set the size let it take, turn off for like 12 seconds and turn back on. to me its the same as with windows rebooting after any software change, they may not tell you but i always shut it off then back on to save any kind of setting or program, it may be a wasted step but i do it anyway.




the default paper settings
Make sure that the default paper size matches the width and length of the paper loaded in the tray. If the paper loaded in the tray is different from the paper size setting, the printer might print blank pages. For instance, the issue might occur if legal size paper (215 x 355 mm (8.5 x 14 in)) is in the tray, and the paper size setting is letter (215 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 in)).

Follow these steps to check the default paper settings.
Click the Windows icon
Click Hardware and Sounds
Click Printers
Right-click the icon for the product, and then click Properties
Click Printing Preferences
Click the Features tab.
Compare the settings in the Size drop-down menu with the paper in the tray. If the paper in the tray is not the size in the Size drop-down menu, change the setting:
a. Click the Size drop-down list, and select more. The Size is window opens.
b. Select the size of the paper that is in the tray, and then click ok.
c. Click OK in the Printing Preferences window, and then click OK in the Properties window.
