...more information Verison was analog and Comcast is digital... so does anyone know how to set up the fax using a digital phone service?

  • Anonymous Jan 28, 2009

We have a cisco analog adapter for our digital lines, however, we CAN make calls to and from the fax using land and cel lines, but it will NOT connect to other fax machines whether receiving or sending.

Just moved to Virginia. Wife is working remotely to her job in Florida and connected the HP 6310 All-in-one but it will not Fax. Have Comcast Digital service for Internet, Cable & Phone. Equipment is recognized and installed but no Line is found when testing the Fax capability.

Yes, we just moved (in Michigan) and our service at the new location is Comcast, including a digital voice line. Our fax wouldn't work - no dial tone even though the telephones would work. We were with Comcast before but we must have had analog. Checking the HP6310xi user manual - troubleshooting section - (online at HP site), I noted that the manual says the fax can't send or receive over a digital line. So, that's the problem and I'm not aware of any fix to that problem, except get a new all-in-one machine or new fax machine that works over digital lines.

How do i connect the fax for my officejet 5510. i use comcast modem for my phone. thanks.

Greetings - Your Officejet was made to fax over an old fashioned analog phone line (POTS) but you're using VOIP phone service (over the internet) which in inherently incompatible. VOIP fax works with some internet providers but apparently not comcast. But it still may be doable.
I recommend you call Comcast tech support to see if they can help you. Maybe something has changed.
There is a good discussion about this issue where some people have it working here:

All of my test fax are no answer. I have the

Your cable modem is not normally a source for telephone line that the fax machine will support. If you have telephone service through Comcast, You need to contact them about proper hookup to configure your fax line.

I can not send or recieve faxes. Ran fax test

Cox Cable is pretty much the same as comcast's and vonage's services. HP fax machines have had HUGE compatibility issues with those types of services, and may be that they did something to their service that caused your fax to stop working.....

Other than that call HP and see if they have any troubleshooting or Diagnostics that you can run, but I ran in to these problems with HP faxes all the time while installing comcast phone service, never knew WHY it didn't work, just that HP doesn't work on that type of service.....at least certain models...Also maybe call COX and see if they did anything recently that could cause it to stop working....

Master Reset

I don't have a 6310 but I do have 4 printers one of which is a 5610. I never bothered w/ a reset switch because I would just turn the printer off, then unplug everying for 2min. Then I would reconnect everything back. If it doesn't work, I suggest you uninstall the software and reinstall it again. Let me know if this helps.
