Every time I print it suddenly stops in the middle of printing and says "error".

the only one i could find is TM-U220 , which falls under the TM-U200 series, as stated in this link.. i i advise you to get in contact with Epson directly , as they are the only ones who can assist you with this issue..

Epson U210PD printer ribbon is shredding and jamming in the machine. Could this be anything other than a pin head problem?

Have you tried reseating the ribbon for the printer? chances are its not installedcorrectly. other factor as well is that the pins are to close to the ribbon and for you to adjust the lever you have to bring it to an epson certified servicer. call epson for authorized service center for this type of printer.
