Can i just throw my computer?

I'm about to chuck my computer over the balcony...i finally got my audio working for my windows media player after downloading a new codec, and i restored my comp after deleting files that i shouldnt have, and everything works fine, except i think the computer overheats and it just shuts down randomly. i've detached the panels on the bottom but i didnt see any dust. the fans are running on boot up, and i dont know what else to adjust to make it work. ive deleted a bunch of pictures/music files to increase my hard drive memory, and it still freaks out and shuts down randomly. grrr. i'm really frusterated, but i cant afford a new computer. is there anything else i can do besides format the whole thing and start over?

this is an old computer, my battery completely died ages ago, and i was doing fine without it. so its only plugged in. thats the other thing. when i click the button for windows updates, it says that its updating, but after a few minutes, it says that updates are ready for installation. i have mcafee, and did a virus scan but nothing came up. but i'm not sure, mcafee is difficult to navigate, it scans, but isnt very clear on what it has found.

    what is a disk defrag?

    disk defrag

    start program files

    accessories then disk defrag

while in defrag sht your screen saver off

    we'll see if that helps

your going to have to change settings for updating

what version windows do you have again

  • DEKR

try to change your update settings through control panel

    automatic updates

restart and d your own update through windows update

mcafee has a few different versions

without the pc in front of me its hard to tell but i think your going to need a new power supply if it completely shuts down.

you can take it to a small pc repair store and most of them will test your power on the spot at no charge

Windows media player throws error when I play any audio

As you may have already notice, there isn't a problem with your driver.
However to gain a better understand the problem you rule out a couple of things. However, if the this problem is only present in windows media player. Then you should try another play i.e. VLC media player.

1. Go to you device manager and make sure the device is working properly. If not try uninstalling the device, restarted the computer letting windows discover the device again.

2. Next go to windows media player file (press "alt" key to get toolbar in newer version. Select options -> devices select your speaker -> properties and be sure that your audio device is available and selected.

3. Finally if all these options has failed, please use an alternative media like the one mention above (VLC media player).

I hope this have been a great help in your troubles. Please provide feedback on the solution.

Can't hear sound on Windows Mediaplayer from DVD I recorded

I've been pondering this one for a day or so - at least two possibilities:
1) There is a mute/audio-off hotbutton inside Windows Media Player itself - click on it and see if the audio works. Alternatively, you can try playing a music file in Windows Media Player to see if THAT file has sound.
2) You need a better Codec - the free version of the K-Lite Codec has limited audio support. There are no easy answers to this problem. I frequently use my computer for converting VHS's to DVD, so I finally plunked down the $50 to purchase Nero 9 and all of its codecs. Before that, however, I used VLC Media Player (free) - it has DVD/VOB audio support.

As a side note, if you wanted to use your computer to convert the VHS's to DVD, you would need a plain-old VCR, a red/white/yellow cable, a DVD burner, and a product called the Dazzle DVD Recorder from Pinnacle. You can hook the VCR straight to your computer and burn away. To get the best experience however, I would also get a program like Nero, Roxio, etc. to do the actual DVD burning (although the Dazzle's native software is perfectly capable of doing the job).

Good luck!

Error when I try to use Windows Media Player 10 or 11

Hi,
This error is generally the result of a corrupt or missing Custsat.dll file, usually located in the C:Program FilesWindows Media Player folder. To workaround this problem:
1. Remove the current Windows Media Player 10 install.
2. Download and install

Windows Media Player 11 for Windows Vista

or

wm_tn_wmp11xp.jpgDownload Player 11 for Windows XP

I tend to use VLC Player, as it plays everything I throw at it..

Hope this helps

HElp!!!!

After three months of trying and trying in many computers, following many, many procedures found all over the Internet, my Creative Nomad has accepted the firmware and has borned again.
What I did?
1. Connected the Nomad on a computer with Windows XP and Windows Media Player 9, that never has been touched by a creaive device.
It recognizes the device but can´t find any update to the drivers,
2. Updated Windows Media Player 9 to Windows Media Player 10,
3. Restart the computer
4. Connect the Nomad and the computer recognizes the device and autamtically search and found updated MPT drivers.
5. Run the firmware update program "ZenXtraP4SAudible_PCFW_LB_2_10_03 (Creative Zen Xtra PlaysForSure Firmware 2.10.03)"
6. Finally the magic button always has been disabled was enabled so start reloading firmware.
And now the Nomad is working in windows vista.

The difference between the computer where the firmware works and the others is that this has never had media player 10 or 11 and never has installed creative drivers.
Hope this can be useful to smoeone, somewhere, sometime.....
