Can I use the WD5000H1U-00 to transfer files from computer with 32 bit XP to new computer with 64 bit Windows 7

You definitely can, however it depends on the type of the files we are talking about here. If it's a video, music, and documents, the answer is yes you can. However, if you want to transfer the windows file and software settings, the answer is no. You can't cross-breed 32 bit and 64 bit platform. A possible alternative you can do is to use XPMode of your windows 7, given that you W7 is ultimate edition.

Help on WD5000H1U-00

Are you sure the power supply is OK for this drive?

Does it make any clicking/clunking sounds like any of these: http://datacent.com/hard_drive_sounds.php?
If yes - it's really bad.
If it sounds normal then try to remove it from enclosure and connect directly to a PC.

Western Digital My Book ES Edition 500 MB

Hi calicali,

Are you using Western Digital's built-in software to try backups, or just dragging or copying/pasting manually?

If you can use more detail I can help you.
