Tomtom XXL GPS still says "Wil u koppel aan 'Rekenaar'?" after charging all night. Screen isn't responsive. The device will turn on, and off. That is all it will do.

I bought this device brand new. Everything in the box looked as though it had never been tampered with. After leaving it plugged in for several hours, the screen still does not respond to any kind of touch. Stylus, fingertip, fingernail, or otherwise. When I plug it directly into my computer via USB port it says "Wil u koppel aan 'Rekenaar'?" and when I un-plug it, and let it run on battery alone, or plug it directly into my vehicle, via cigarette adapter, it says "Afrikaans?" |NEE| |JA| I have no idea what it wants. And actually, since I can't hit either button (I've tried) I suppose in a way, it doesn't matter what it wants. Is there a way to reset this device? Is my touch screen broken? It couldn't possibly need to charge for even longer, could it? (the manual says it only needs 2 hours. it's had way, way more than that.)

SOURCE: tom tom one v1 Loose power connector

If the problem exists both when you use the vehicle power connector and the usb cable to your computer, then you have to assume that the problem is with the socket on the One. If it's still in warranty, I would send it back to Tom Tom for repair. Contact customer support for repair information.

SOURCE: can i first charge my tomtom 330xl on the usb port of my computer

If it is plugged into the car, you use the DC charger. You can charge it using the usb port on your computer as well. In the accessories section of tomtom.com you will find an ac adaptor as well that can be purchased to charge it to an electrical outlet.

SOURCE: low battery, won't charge

connect the garmin to your computer using the usb port. It will start charging then. For some reason when the battery goes dead in this unit the only way to charge it is with computer. the car adaptor will not work once the battery gets real low.

SOURCE: Brand new Garmin Nuvi 1490 T out of the box. How

Garmin satnavs come with a charge out of the box.
In some cases your device may have lost a charge during shelf life. In this case you can charge these units in three ways:

  1. Place unit on computer with USB cable for approximately 8-12 hours
  2. Place unit on Garmin specified AC adaptor for approximately 4-6 hours
  3. Place unit on 12V vehicle adaptor for approximately 4-6 hours.
Some cars continue to supply power to the cigarette lighter socket when turned off and others don't. If yours doesn't you can charge it from your computer. There's no indicator to show that it's charging or when it's charged. However when you disconnect the satnav from the computer and turn it on there's a battery state indicator which shows if it's fully charged or not.

My Tom Tom XXL won't turn on when plugged in.

The GPS device runs off the battery ... so, you need to charge the battery (fully, or enough to power the GPS) before you start using it again. For clarity, if the battery is not charged, the GPS will not run when plugged into a power source.

The Tomtom XXL was unplugged from the cigarette lighter overnight. What do I do to recharge it?

The device can be run from the lighter plug without being charged first. The obvious answer is: plug in the device again; when the car is key is in and electricity switched on, it should charge again.

Most Tomtom devices also come with a standard USB cable or charge cradle with non-standard connector on device end (but USB on the other). It plugs in a PC for use with the Tomtom HOME software and also for charging.

I have a tomtom xxl 540s and it just loads tomtom logo on screen and freezes

First you need to reset the tom tom by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds, it will restart itself, from there it should get passed the tom tom logo.
If it does not do the job, then you need to connect your gps to a computer, then back up the files then you restore the files back on it after formating the gps.

How do i know my xxl 540s battery charge full?

To know if your tomtom is fully charged. Unplug the tomtom from the power source and you will see the battery meter, if it is full or not, because while it is charging, it is the power source that is working so the battery signal will not come up. Unplug it and you will see the battery meter.
Hope this was able to solve the problem.

While in drive view, tap the screen on the blue status bar, on the GPS signal strength. A new screen appears showing the battery charge level at the top right corner.
