Memorex MLT3221 32 in. LCD TV Logo
Anonymous Posted on Jan 27, 2009

No picture on Memorex MLTD3222 flat panel LCD.

Turn tv on, it displays "Memorex" very quickly, then goes black. No buttons on remote nor TV work except power. I have the MLTD3222 which is same except DVD player on side. I can not change input because nothing displays when I push it. I had my cable box hooked up with HDMI, speakers turned off as sound was going optic output to receiver...I got sound but no picture. So I tried component, composite, etc. but nothing worked because I can not get TV to display input function to change input source. I have unplugged the TV and all that to try and get it back to out-of-the box settings, but it just displays Memorex real fast and that is it.\
After trying all kinds of input configurations, I finally got video two input to give me sound. Nothing gives me a picture. Video two (back panel) is the third input source from input menu per manual. I do not know why it is on that one. oringinally I had it as HMDI 2 when problem started (11th input source on menu).

    same as others .

  • Anonymous May 02, 2009

Same problem here, exactally as described above. Very frustrating, but after 30-45 minutes of POWER ON/POWER OFF, the picture eventually comes on.

  • tony_kahle May 05, 2009

I have the same TV with the same problem, is there something I can do to make it work again or do I have to return it for professional repair?

  • ccb589499 May 10, 2009

Same thing. This happened before and then a few days later the screen came back on. It is frustrating since you can't use the functions on the side of the tv when there is a blank screen. I also only had this tv for less than 6 months.

I recently got this tv from somone because of this exact problem. I have found a solution that works for mine. You can check to see if it works for you also. What I did was take of the back cover. 3 screws (1 big one in the center and 2 little ones below it). Next look at the power board. If plugged in and turned on the red light on the power board should be lit up. If so your power board is fine. Next find the component that has 4 switches. I manually turned these on and turned the tv on and it worked! Has been working ever since!

This solution has worked for me so far. I must add that I was hesitant to move those switches (on SW1 of the power board), but once I did, the picture came back. However, after returning all 4 of the switches back to off, I still have a picture. This leads me to believe that there is a faulty component on the board (or within the device) that is "reset" by these switches. I'm certainly not a guru and I'm still tempted to spend the $66.51 plus shipping from Sears for a reconditioned updated replacement board. I guess I'll wait to see how long this fix lasts. Next time, Samsung, Sharp, Toshiba for sure.

Wat if there is no switches?

  • eze2000 Jan 29, 2011

I see the 3 normally open switches of SW 1 on the circuit board there is no component soldered in place. Question is do I need to make 3 jumpers and attach to board or did your set have dip switches in this location?

  • carranzak Mar 16, 2011

where are these 4 switches at

  • m2mmma Aug 27, 2011

the component is a pink box on the bottom left corner of the supply power board. Near the box will be a red indicator light.

Thanks for these instructions. I had same problem so I tried your fix. TV is on now and time will tell - as my screen wouldn't go black until TV was on for a few minutes....so I am now waiting for it to go black - or hopefully NOT!

well, it worked fine for exactly 23 minutes and went black (audio still works fine). Seems this didn't work for me :(

JADEHE'S Solution #2 was the correct fix...I would caution though that if you have limited mechanical abilities approach this with caution. There are many electrical transisters/diodes items exposed when you open the back covers of the TV so becareful not to damage them, but yes this was the fix. My thought is that this unit is very sensitive to power surges/lightning storms and these switches kick off ifon is sensed. Maybe a surge supressor at the outlet may prevent it from happening again, but those are just my thoughts based only my experience with electronics (which aint much)
Unfortunetly, I had already spent the $50.00 diagnostic fee at the TV Repair Shop and was told it was going to need new lamp power supply and that exceeded the cost of the unit itself. Beware of those type of diagnostic responses and above all have them put in writting what they found wrong and the part#'s required to fix it. You may find out that they are not exactly quick to offer that information but remember that is what you paid for. Hope this helped and we owe Jadehe a thank you as well for his post.

How to do an update on memorex lcd mlt 3222

If you mean a firmware update to the MLTD3222, there is no way for a user to update this TV with built-in DVD player. The manufacturer doesn't provide updates and has no way to access them from a DVD, USB flash drive or SD card. (The manual for the related MLTD2622 is available from Memorex support: http://support.memorex.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/939 . )

I wish that I had better news for you.

If it appears that your panel is lighting but you have no picture you have one of two problems. Either your T-con is bad ( most likely ) or your main board is bad.

Problem with the Memorex MLT3221 32 in. LCD TV. When i turn on my TV it displays "Memorex" and very quickly, then it goes black. I took the back off and the red light is on on the power board. But, I am...

I would actually not recommend opening the TV since you could get an electrical shock. I can suggest you to unplug the TV for a while (30 minutes) and then just plug it back in and turn it on. If that does not work, my recommendation for you is to take the TV to a local repair shop. It may be a fuse or internal component shorted out, but in this case is better to have a technician check the unit.

I work for Memorex tech support. Our number is 800-919-3647.

I know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described can't be fixed with troubleshooting. Your TV will have to be repaired. There is a part that has developed a defect and needs to be replaced. If you're still in warranty, the TV will be repaired at no charge to you. The warranty is one year from the date of purchase. If you purchased an extended service plan they will repair the TV at no charge as well.

If the TV is no longer in warranty, it will likely cost a minimum of $150 parts and labor. This is assuming that you only need one circuit board or small part. If the problem is more than one of the circuit boards, the price of repair could go much higher.

I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information allows you to make an informed decision as to how to proceed from here. Please be sure to vote on my response. I hope I've earned a good rating from you today.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Can not access menu or input functions

Hi rduncan27,
I will be happy to help. 88% of LCD tv problems are with the backlight, the symptoms you described indicate a probable inverter malfunction. Lets do a simple test to check the functionality.
  1. Get the tv to a point that it is producing sound.
  2. Take a flashlight and shine it on the screen.
  3. Look very closely for a dark video image.
Let me know your findings and we can proceed from there.
