Kenmore Elite, Whirlpool Duet, Maytag Epic series Error Codes

The following are common error codes, with general definitions, associated with Whirlpool Duet series, Duet Sport series, Steam series, Kenmore Elite series and Maytag Epic series FRONT LOADING washing machines. The error codes pertaining to the washer you have, will be determined by the specific model number. All error codes are listed in the technical data sheet associated with the appliance.

F/H/F20 - NO WATER DETECT ERROR. No water detected entering the machine, or the pressure switch has not tripped after 6 minutes.

F01/F14 - EEPROM ERROR. Communication problem between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and Motor Control Unit (MCU), or inability to read the EEPROM data on the CCU.

F02/F21 - LONG DRAIN. Commonly associated with a drain pump failure or clog in the drainage system. Occurs when the drain time exceeds 8 minutes.

F03 - HEATER SHORT CIRCUIT TO GROUND. Occurs if there is a short circuit to ground detect on the heater.

F05/F24 - WATER TEMPERATURE SENSOR ERROR. Associated with NTC sensor out of range or heating circuit failure.

F06/F25 - DRIVE MOTOR TACHOMETER ERROR/STEAMER DEFECT. Occurs when the motor speed cannot be detected by either the MCU or the CCU. Or, for steam models, the steamer temperature has not reached the correct value.

F07/F15 - MOTOR CONTROL UNIT ERROR. An internal failure with the Motor Control Unit has been detected by the Central Control Unit.

F09/F27 - OVERFLOW CONDITION. Occurs when the Overflow Contact on the Pressure Switch is closed for more than 60 seconds. When an overflow condition is generated, the door remains locked and the drain pump will run constantly. Pressing PAUSE/CANCEL will clear the display, but often will not shut off the pump. UNPLUG washer to service.

F10/F31 - MOTOR CONTROL UNIT HEAT SINK TRIP. Occurs when the thermal protector on the MCU gets too hot.

F11/F28 - SERIAL COMMUNICATIONS ERROR/MOTOR CONTROL UNIT ERROR. Caused by either a communications problem between the Central Control Unit and Motor Control Unit, or Motor Control Unit internal failure.

F13/F30 - DISPENSER CIRCUIT ERROR. Occurs when the dispenser motor is not in the proper position.

Fdl/F22 - DOOR LOCK ERROR. Occurs when the door fails to latch after 6 attempts.

F23 - HEATER FAILURE. Occurs when the water temperature increase is less than 86 degrees F during the first 40 minutes.

F26 - DOOR SWITCH ERROR. Occurs when the door has not be opened for three consecutive cycles. Or, if the door switch remains open for more than 5 seconds while the door is locked.

Fdu/F29 - DOOR UNLOCK ERROR. Occurs when the door fails to unlock after 6 attempts.

F32 - PRESSURE SWITCH FAILURE. Occurs when no electrical supply from the CCU to the pressure switch is detected. Or, if the pressure switch contacts are worn out.

F33 - PUMP DRIVE SYSTEM ERROR. Occurs when the connection between the pump and the Central Control Unit (CCU) is lost.

F34 - UNLOAD. This failure is only for information purposes and is displayed in the error log history during diagnostics. Occurs when a load was detected in the drum during a clean cycle and the cycle had to be interrupted.

F35 - ANALOG PRESSURE SWITCH FAILURE. Occurs when there is a malfunction of the steamer component detected by the steamer electronic control board.

F42 - MOTOR CONTROL UNIT ERROR, REPETITIVE UNDERVOLTAGE. Occurs when 4 under voltage conditions are detected by the MCU during the wash cycle.

F61 - STEAMER COMMUNICATION FAILURE. Occurs when incorrect communication is detected between the CCU and steamer electronic board. Error should reset after running diagnostics.

F62 - STEAMER ELECTRONIC BOARD RELAY ERROR. Occurs when one of the steamer board relays (K1, K2, K3, K4) fails. Error should reset after running diagnostics.

F63 - TOTAL STEAMER FAILURE. Occurs when the steamer will no longer function and needs to be replaced.

F64 - STEAMER INLET VALVE FAILURE. Occurs when the steamer valve or flush valve becomes blocked. Error should reset after running diagnostics.

F65 - STEAMER TIMEOUT. Occurs when there is no communication between the CCU and Steamer Electronic Board. Error should reset after running diagnostics.

F70 - CENTRAL CONTROL UNIT (CCU) HEARTBEAT FAILURE. Occurs when no communication data is detected from the CCU to the front panel user interface.

F71 - USER INTERFACE HEARTBEAT FAILURE. Occurs in conjunction with F70 error due to no communications detected from the User Interface to the CCU.

F99 - NOT SUPPORTED. Mismatch of the User Interface and Central Control Unit (CCU). Or, corrupted EEPROM.

rL - WASH LOAD DETECTED INSIDE WASH TUB DURING CLEAN CYCLE. Detects any garments (by weight) that may be left inside the wash tub during a clean cycle. NOTE: Wash tub is to remain empty during a Clean Cycle.

Sd/SUD - SUDS LOCK ERROR. Occurs when too much detergent is used. Or, occurs in conjunction with F02/F21 error (Long Drain) due to obstructions in drain cycle.

The first step in troubleshooting any error code is to press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear, and verify your installation. Make sure the water inlet valves are turned on and connected correctly. If the error code remains, UNPLUG the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit. In many cases a simple CCU reset will correct any momentary glitches or erroneous errors. If the error returns following a CCU reset, a legitimate error condition exists and must be corrected in order to return the appliance to normal operation. For more specific information and troubleshooting advice on how to remedy most problems, refer to the technical data sheet.

NOTE: EACH ONE OF THESE APPLIANCES COME WITH A TECHNICAL DATA SHEET INSIDE. THIS IS THE SAME SHEET AN APPLIANCE REPAIRMAN WILL REFERENCE ON A SERVICE CALL. REFER TO THE TECH SHEET FOR MORE DETAILED TROUBLESHOOTING INFORMATION.

The tech sheet contains troubleshooting data, wiring diagrams, diagnostics procedures, component illustrations and all error code definitions.

To access, you will need to remove the lower toe panel directly below the door. The access screws are located under the bottom front edge of the panel. You may have to prop the two front feet of the washer up for better access to the screws (a 2x4 works well for this). With the screws removed, the panel should drop down, and come off. If the tech sheet isn't directly behind the toe panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls.
It is recommended that the tech sheet be placed back inside the appliance when repairs are completed in order avoid losing and to keep this pertinent info for future use.

As the name implies this is a DNS error. Try replacing the default DNS with IP addresses from the OpenDNS project, which supplies free DNS. Here are a couple to try: 208.67.222.222 or/and 208.67.220.220
