Is the screen black from the moment you turn your PC on? Or do you see the BIOS splash screen and Windows loading, but when Windows starts it goes black?

My g60 -235dx laptop on startup error message say communication problem with I/O deveice, HD, flash drave , CD-ROM

G60-235dx. (2011 model, is my guess)
ok tell the full story please.
PC boots sequentially.
progress in that matters. so it seem windows unstated runs?
XP?
so you power on and what happens ?,
errors before windows logs in or after.?

my guess #1 is the main laptop battery is bad, remove it.
this pC runs on AC power pack endlessly, (AC power good)
dim screens. can be bad CCFL lamps or low power in the PC.
so again take out the battery
what flash drive, remove that, test the pC with no usb devices at all plugged in.

just an A.C power pack and no main big battery.
this PC has old CCFL lamp tubes that all go dim, fast.
turn yellow then dim the flicker and then DIE for ever.
all do. some in 2 years time never turned off. they do.

it the screen goes black use a flashlight if data is good on the screen the back lamp is croaking. (***** of CCFL tubes)
there are many cause of black screens, I can list 30. (will not)
but dim screens are only
1; main battery bad and shorted.
2: AC power pack near dead. (weak happens)
3: shorts in the main board, modules.overloading power buses.
4: CCFL dim as every one this old does, all do.
see flash light test.

I have an old Princeton VL 173 that I had been using with an old computer running Windows XP Pro. It works fine. Got a computer with an Asus MB and a Intel Core 2 Quad running Windows 7 Home Premium...

It sounds like a driver/software issue. When you ran the Princeton VL173 on XP you probably had all the correct software for your video card and the correct drivers to support your video output. When you changes OS to Windows 7, the XP drivers are no longer in place. My best guess is that you need to find and install the correct drivers for your system video and for your video card that are Windows 7 compatible. The old XP drivers will not work in Windows 7.

I am running XP with a Princeton VL173. It works great. I identified the correct video drivers for my system and installed them. My video card is nVidia 8800GT. I downloaded and installed the latest software from nVidia and installed it. It runs like a champ.

Several months ago my display died. It was just blank -- black. I tried using a power supply (AC adapter) from an old HP printer that died, and it worked! The plugs were identical, and the power output profiles were very nearly identical. It has been rinnung great for many months now.

I hope this helps.

I have Monitor Proview PL916S 900P It turns on

spc12b, Have you tried the flashlight test yet? How old is this monitor? Your monitor has a 2 types of power supplys in it. A switch-mode-power-supply and an "INVERTER" supply. One or both of them could be having a problem. The inverter needs DC from the smps to change it into AC to light up the cold-cathode-fluorescent-tubes that are hung in back of the lcd panel. Let me know results of flashlight test. After screen goes black, hold light 1-2" from screen at different angles. Let me know if you still can see the win-desktop screen even though it is still dark.. Bye for now. louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com

My ViewSonic monitor just blacks out for no reason

It could be a setting you could have done on the "Power Saving" settings under "Screen Saver" settings, if you have Windows XP. Like "Turn off monitor after" a certain time. Even if you don't have Windows, please check the Power Save settings.

Sceptre D50X black screen

If a monitor shows a normal screen at startup but goes bad after the Windows logo disappears, your Windows video setting is probably not compatible with the monitor. You can start Windows in safe mode to select a compatible resolution for your monitor.
